Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest Canceled After Just 4 Seasons!

As a film enthusiast, I must admit that series on Apple TV+ might seem a tad more secure than the average show due to Apple’s financial might, which earned them an impressive $390+ billion in revenue last year alone. However, the dynamic nature of streaming services never sleeps, and even critically acclaimed shows can face the chopping block. Apple has recently demonstrated this truth quite vividly.

As of November 1, 2019, when Apple TV+ made its debut, it had only seven original shows. However, since then, the number of original series has grown significantly, with most receiving multiple seasons regardless of viewership numbers. Shows like “For All Mankind”, “Slow Horses”, “Ted Lasso”, and “The Morning Show” have continued for years after their initial release. If Apple TV+ believes in a show, they are willing to invest the necessary funds to keep it running. For instance, even a relatively small sci-fi hit like “Silo”, which features an all-star cast including Rebecca Ferguson, Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Common, and Tim Robbins, was renewed for two more seasons despite moderate viewership numbers. In contrast to other streaming services that are reducing costs, Apple TV+ seems undeterred and continues its forward momentum.

As a movie enthusiast, I must admit that the recent news about “Mythic Quest” wrapping up after its fourth season has left me taken aback. Despite the show’s consistent popularity and the recent airing of the four-episode spin-off, “Side Quest,” barely a month ago, it seems Apple has decided to part ways with the franchise following the conclusion of the fourth season in March. Both seasons, including the one for “Side Quest,” were met with positive reviews from critics, but it appears that Apple believes it’s time to explore new creative territories with this beloved series.

What Does The Cancellation Of Mythic Quest Mean For The Future Of Comedy At Apple TV+?

Though it might seem unexpected that Apple is ending its longest-running comedy series, a four-season run in just five years, it’s evident that they aren’t retreating from their pursuit of more comedic content on television. Currently, The Studio, a highly acclaimed show in the TV sphere along with unexpected hit The Pitt—is still airing on Apple TV+. The Hollywood satire produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg has garnered near-universal praise from critics, suggesting it could continue for years since it’s centered around a film production company. Moreover, other innovative comedies such as Government Cheese, Murderbot, and Stick are set to premiere on Apple TV+ this year as well.

Upcoming series on Apple TV+ include “Ted Lasso,” “Shrinking,” “Palm Royale,” “Bad Monkey,” “Loot,” and “Platonic.” Over the past few years, these shows have been renewed. Although “Ted Lasso” is currently Apple’s biggest comedy hit, they don’t appear to be overly concerned with competing in the ratings race that Netflix and Disney+ are engaged in.

Mythic Quest is currently available to stream on Apple TV+.
