Bungie sets a fresh livestream date for unveiling fresh gameplay of their upcoming shooter titled Marathon. Amidst the project’s development, there are still many secrets swirling around Bungie’s new shooter, Marathon, as it appears to have faced its own share of fluctuations and changes along the way.
Starting as early as rumors in 2022, there were whispers about a possible return for Marathon. However, it wasn’t until the 2023 PlayStation Showcase that Bungie made an official unveiling of the game with a cutting-edge announcement trailer. As per Bungie, Marathon is a sci-fi multiplayer shooter featuring team extraction missions set on Tau Ceti – a planet that enthusiasts of the 1994 original should recognize. Following this initial reveal, Bungie has been fairly quiet about the game’s developments, leaving fans curious about its progression.
For the past couple of weeks, Bungie has been hinting at news through subtle updates on their social media page. Industry insiders have given a peek into what fans might anticipate from Marathon. It appears that all these hints were leading up to an official announcement by Bungie. They are now preparing a special livestream event scheduled for April 12, which will be streamed live on their Twitch channel, where they will finally unveil gameplay for the upcoming Marathon.
Marathon Gameplay Reveal Date and Time
- Saturday, April 12 at 10AM PT(7AM ET)
As a gamer, I was thrilled when the announcement arrived, accompanied by a tantalizing sneak peek. This brief trailer portrayed an intense confrontation between two competitors during a match, one of whom seemed to be a character from Marathon, hinted at earlier as “Stealth.” In a heart-stopping moment, this Stealth character was fatally shot and bled out, only for a cybernetic cat to materialize and snuggle up beside the lifeless body. The other enigmatic runner, on the other hand, seemed to have made a hasty escape, possibly indicated by the beam of light in the background, suggesting a successful extraction.

Regardless of the outcome, this will mark the first update fans have received since October 2024, following an announcement from new game director Joe Ziegler. If reports are accurate, Marathon’s development timeline has not been without its bumps, including internal setbacks and a controversial incident that led to the alleged termination of the original Bungie director for Marathon after a misconduct inquiry. Later on, Barrett filed a lawsuit alleging wrongful dismissal against Bungie, an action that eventually garnered Sony’s attention. In response, Sony contested the claims made in the lawsuit by providing evidence and potentially preparing the groundwork for a counterclaim.
