Blizzard announced that the next update for World of Warcraft, Patch 12.0.5, will be released on Tuesday, April 21st. This update adds new content to the Midnight expansion, including Void Assaults and Ritual Sites, giving players more to do in the game.
Be warned, the following contains major spoilers for the main story of World of Warcraft: Midnight! Patch 12.0.5 for World of Warcraft will arrive shortly after the initial ending of the Midnight expansion. After the events of the March on Quel’Danas raid, which included a brief return of Sylvanas Windrunner, the elves of Azeroth worked together to purify the Sunwell from Void corruption. They used magical artifacts to counteract the Void’s power, successfully transforming the Sunwell into the Dawnwell. However, the elves’ relief might be short-lived, as Xal’atath and her Devouring Host remain a danger to Azeroth, meaning the Worldsoul Saga is still ongoing.
World of Warcraft: Midnight Has More Content on the Way
On Tuesday, April 21st, after routine maintenance, World of Warcraft will launch Patch 12.0.5. This update introduces new challenges and rewards for players. Void Assaults will begin appearing in Eversong Woods and Zul’Aman, requiring players to defend against these invasions. Throughout the Midnight zones, Ritual Sites will also become available, offering additional opportunities to earn rewards for the Great Vault. Players can use Field Accolades earned from completing Void Assaults and Ritual Sites to purchase powerful Champion and Heroic gear. Further gear upgrades will be possible at the Voidforge in the Voidstorm, allowing players to enhance their weapons and trinkets after helping to create the Ascendent Nilhammer.
Patch 12.0.5 for World of Warcraft isn’t just about fighting! Players can also enjoy new, relaxed activities like Decor Duels, a hide-and-seek game called Prop Hunt, and Abyss Anglers, where you go spearfishing underwater. Plus, the update will feature a Pride event called the Darkspear Dash, inspired by the popular player-run “Running of the Trolls.” It’s expected to happen in late June, and players will be able to earn rainbow-themed cosmetic items during the event.
World of Warcraft Has a Busy Year Ahead
While Patch 12.0.5 for World of Warcraft doesn’t include any new story elements, players won’t have to wait long for the next chapter in the Midnight campaign. It’s expected to arrive with Patch 12.0.7, planned for release later in spring 2026, and will feature new quests, a small raid with one boss, and the return of the Turbulent Timeways event. Later in the summer, the 12.1 content update – potentially set in the troll-themed Atal’Utek zone – will be released, and it will also kick off the second season of Midnight.
