Summary
- Patrick Wilson isn’t upset about the Aquaman franchise ending, unsure how Orm’s story can continue.
- As the DCU reboots, Wilson is open to returning to DC, depending on the story and creative team.
- Wilson is content moving on from Aquaman, leaving behind Orm as Momoa joins the DCU as Lobo.
Previously associated with the DCEU, a former actor disclosed that they aren’t bitter about the franchise concluding. Nevertheless, if given the opportunity, they’d gladly return to their DC character. Yet, they find it hard to envision how this could transpire.
In the movie “Aquaman,” Patrick Wilson played Orm, Arthur Curry’s half-brother and ruler of Atlantis. Orm served as the main villain in the original film, but he switched sides to become an unwilling ally in the sequel, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” In this movie, Orm helped Aquaman fight Black Manta. Although Orm was pardoned and allowed to live under the condition of staying hidden (the people of Atlantis were told he died), the second “Aquaman” film marked the conclusion of Orm’s story as part of the DC Extended Universe franchise. However, with James Gunn restarting the franchise and starting a new DC Universe, Wilson doesn’t seem disheartened about the sudden ending of the “Aquaman” series.
In an interview with Variety, Wilson was questioned about potential sequels for Aquaman. He explained that he didn’t necessarily expect more than two films, as he wasn’t sure where the story of Orm could continue. Even though he had a great time working on the Aquaman movies and wouldn’t mind another installment, he seems fine with moving on from that project.
I didn’t expect there to be a third “Aquaman” movie, but I wasn’t disappointed because I wouldn’t know where the story would go for Ocean Master. I enjoyed playing him in the first and second films, and I like that the characters of Night Owl Two in “Watchmen” and Ocean Master are strange and unusual. So, I’m content with not having a third movie.

It’s well-known that the DC Universe (DCU) is reviving some actors and characters from the discontinued DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Actors like those from “The Suicide Squad”, “Peacemaker”, and “Blue Beetle” will replay their roles, but the movies themselves are only canon to particular incidents mentioned in upcoming DCU projects. When asked about coming back to DC, actor Wilson expressed his readiness, contingent on the plot and creative team. Yet, he expressed uncertainty about how Orm could be integrated into the new DCU and commented that they had a successful run with “Aquaman”.
Would I return to it? To be honest, it depends on the quality. Who’s in charge? What’s the plotline? He’s quite peculiar, and I’m unsure where he fits in. It seems strange to me. Moreover, they’ve shifted the DC Universe dramatically. We had some great times together. All good. But there’s no hint of longing for more. I would gladly rejoin if it’s worth the effort, but I’m uncertain about how.
In the upcoming series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” Jason Momoa will step into the role of Lobo, leaving room for Wilson to possibly play a new character if he wonders about Orm’s place in the revamped DC Universe. As of now, Momoa is the only DCEU actor who has been cast as a different character within the DCU, but it doesn’t rule out the possibility that others may follow suit.
Despite the persistent calls from some DC fans for Warner Bros. to reinstate the SnyderVerse, it seems as though Jason Momoa, aka Aquaman, is at peace with his departure from the franchise. Meanwhile, other fans argue that the DC Universe needs a fresh start and that Gunn should have completely rebooted the franchise instead. However, just like Momoa’s tenure with the Aquaman franchise, that opportunity has passed by.
Aquaman is available on Max.
