ARC Raiders ‘Censoring’ No Longer Present in EA Chat

Earlier this week, there was a buzz in various online communities when it was found out that the chat function within the EA app for PC was hiding or blocking references to ‘ARC Raiders‘. A sequence of images shared on social media platforms demonstrated that other game titles were typed correctly, but ARC Raiders appeared censored with asterisks, implying it as a taboo or inappropriate term.

After launching the EA application myself, I’ve verified that I am now capable of sending communications regarding ARC Raiders.

Glitch or Something Deeper?

It’s plausible that this issue might have been a complex malfunction, and unfortunately, it doesn’t reflect positively on Electronic Arts.

ARC Raiders is a forthcoming extraction-style shooter game developed by Embark Studios, led by Patrick Soderlund, who previously served as Executive Vice President at Electronic Arts and was also the CEO of DICE in the past.

This year, ARC Raiders has garnered impressive results during playtests, and it’s scheduled for release on October 30, which falls just twenty days after Battlefield 6 debuts.

This week, all mentions of ARC Raiders were mysteriously blacklisted on the EA app, leaving users puzzled. However, as of now, that censorship seems to have lifted, as I’ve personally confirmed just moments ago before drafting this.

I can’t say for sure how long the term has been uncensored.

This incident might have been an unusual malfunction, although it’s peculiar since none of the other game titles or terms were affected. I’ve contacted Electronic Arts to ascertain whether this was simply a technical glitch or if there was a more significant underlying issue at play.

Could it be that a minor incident took place within Electronic Arts, perhaps igniting a wave of corporate rivalry which might have led an executive to insist on censoring a term, all without public knowledge or awareness?
