As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the anticipation for ARC Raiders has been a rollercoaster ride. After initially being announced back in 2021 and promising a 2022 release, the game seemed to have vanished into thin air like so many other vaporware titles. But lo and behold, it’s back on track for a 2025 launch!
In simple terms, “ARC Raiders”, an eagerly awaited multiplayer survival game with elements of exploration and shooting, is set to release on both PC and consoles in 2025. After making a big splash at The Game Awards Show in 2021, the game seemed to disappear due to a lack of news about its development progress.
Under the supervision of Embark Studios, two games were in progress simultaneously: ARC Raiders and The Finals. However, due to the more enthusiastic response towards The Finals, efforts were redirected towards developing the free-to-play multiplayer shooter, resulting in a delay for ARC Raiders. Now, anticipation for ARC Raiders is being rekindled once more.
At Gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live, the game ARC Raiders was officially unveiled with a planned launch on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nvidia GeForce Now in 2025. As described on its official website, ARC Raiders falls under the category of action survival shooter games, but is actually more similar to an extraction shooter rather than the looter shooter it was initially marketed as. If you’re curious about this game, sign-ups are now open for PC playtests on its Steam page, with testing scheduled from October 24 to October 27, 2024. Unfortunately, no console playtests have been announced yet. Once the tests are finished, a definite release date for the game will be disclosed.
ARC Raiders Releasing in 2025 on PC and Current Generation Consoles
During the showcase, we got a sneak peek at the game with a teaser trailer, but details about the specific gameplay are scarce. The setting appears to be a post-apocalyptic world populated by ARC machines, which serve as common adversaries for both PvE and PvP players. In this game, you’ll assume the role of a Raider, someone responsible for managing a neighborhood within an underground colony. Your missions will involve venturing above ground in search of supplies, providing opportunities to explore the world and engage with some of the game’s survival aspects.
Initially planned for release in 2022, it’s been confirmed that ARC Raiders will not be available until 2025. So far, there haven’t been any updates from the studio about its progress or potential delays. Some fans have speculated that this could mean the project has been cancelled to allow Embark Studios to devote all their attention to The Finals.
In a change from the initial free-to-play model unveiled in 2021, ARC Raiders will instead be sold for $40 upfront. The executive producer, Aleksander Gröndal, explains that this move towards a premium title better aligns with the overall game experience as opposed to alternative revenue sources.
