The design director for ARC Raiders has stated that the team is working on adjustments to in-game events that encourage players to camp. ARC Raiders, the popular extraction shooter from Embark Studios, has been a major topic in the gaming world since its release six months ago. The game quickly gained millions of players, surpassing the initial popularity of other new shooters like Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Embark Studios’ ongoing support has been a key factor in the game’s success.
Embark has consistently updated ARC Raiders since its launch in October 2025, keeping the game engaging with frequent improvements. These updates have varied from minor bug fixes to substantial additions like new maps and gameplay elements. Embark Studios has hinted at even bigger plans for 2026, including more maps, new challenges, and potentially powerful new enemies. Upcoming updates may particularly focus on improving game balance and addressing issues with players camping.
ARC Raiders is Looking to Address Camping
In a recent PC Gamer interview, ARC Raiders design director Virgil Watkins discussed potential changes to the game. He addressed the issue of players camping during Locked Gate and Hidden Bunker events, explaining that the team is looking at ways to revise the maps. While he didn’t reveal specifics, Watkins indicated the changes will be focused adjustments, not major overhauls, aimed at discouraging camping. He noted that Hidden Bunker already included tougher enemies near the entrance to deter camping, but skilled players could still overcome them easily.
Players in ARC Raiders have repeatedly surprised the developers with their skill and speed, most recently with ‘camping’ strategies in Locked Gate and Hidden Bunker. Embark Studios noted players are defeating bosses like the Queen and Matriarch much faster than anticipated, even coordinating across entire servers to do so. The team has also been actively addressing issues like cheating and glitches, issuing bans to players who exploited a duplication bug in ARC Raiders.
Embark Studios has closely listened to the ARC Raiders community, and this has really helped the game gain traction. The developers are often surprised by how quickly players are mastering the game’s challenges and have been actively discussing enemy difficulty. Virgil Watkins has shared that the team pays close attention to what players are saying and that many enemies are already being handled with ease. They’ve also addressed concerns about how players are matched in queues, confirming that the game doesn’t prioritize matching aggressive players with those focused on player-versus-environment content.
Image via Embark Studios Fans of ARC Raiders have a lot to anticipate as the game continues to evolve. The upcoming Shrouded Sky update, launching on February 24th, will add a new weather effect: Hurricanes. These powerful storms will bring strong winds that impact how players move, and they’ll also change visibility. While debris from the hurricanes can obstruct your view, it can also help you spot an enemy’s shields during the storm. ARC Raiders is building on its success and promises plenty of exciting content for players in the future.
