I’m so excited the Cold Snap update is here for ARC Raiders! And Embark is doing something really cool – we can unlock a free outfit in ARC Raiders by playing their other game, The Finals. The best part? The Finals is free-to-play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, so there’s really no excuse not to give it a try and snag that exclusive outfit. I’m definitely jumping in!
With the launch of ARC Raiders‘ big new ‘Cold Snap’ update, players will find a crossover with The Finals. This is the second major update since the game came out in October, and it introduces a lot of fresh content. The most noticeable change is the new ‘Cold Snap’ map condition, which blankets the Buried City, Dam Battlegrounds, Spaceport, and Blue Gate maps in snow. But it’s more than just a visual update – the snow impacts gameplay too. Players will take damage if they stay in the cold for too long, visibility is reduced, and frozen ponds create slippery hazards.
Play The Finals To Get A Free ARC Raiders Skin
The latest update for ARC Raiders, called Cold Snap, is now available and includes new cosmetic items. Players can also earn a free, exclusive outfit by playing Embark’s other game, The Finals. Just launch The Finals on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC, log in with the same Embark account you use for ARC Raiders, and complete three matches of any type. The outfit will then be unlocked and ready to use in ARC Raiders.
Embark Studios was created in 2018 by experienced professionals, including many who previously worked at EA and DICE. Its CEO, Patrick Soderlund, used to lead DICE, the studio behind the Battlefield series. In 2021, Embark announced The Finals, a free-to-play team-based shooter where players can heavily destroy the environment. The game initially did well, attracting 10 million players in the first two weeks. However, player numbers have since dropped, and its parent company, Nexon, reported that The Finals isn’t retaining players or generating as much revenue as expected after the launch of its major Season 2 update. Despite this, Embark continues to support The Finals with new content and updates, remaining dedicated to its first game.
The studio then changed direction and concentrated on ARC Raiders, a game that had been significantly reworked. Originally planned as a cooperative experience focused on players versus environment – much like Helldivers 2 – Embark decided to essentially start over because the initial gameplay wasn’t enjoyable. They shifted the focus to a PvPvE extraction shooter, which meant the game’s release date was moved to 2025.
Embark made a smart move by rethinking and relaunching ARC Raiders as a game that combines player-versus-player and player-versus-environment action. The result has been a big success since its October release. On Steam, the game quickly reached over 481,000 players at the same time. It’s maintained a strong player base, averaging around 300,000 concurrent users during peak hours, thanks to regular updates and new content. Both players and critics have praised ARC Raiders, highlighting its engaging gameplay, enjoyable social interactions, and distinctive enemies.
