ARC Raiders has a lot of hidden story details and clues, and some of these might foreshadow future updates and content for the popular Extraction Shooter developed by Embark Studios.
Certain story elements give players a preview of future events, while others explain potential dangers from the next group of ARC enemies. These five key story details, or Lore Clues, are connected to the evolving player-versus-environment-versus-player landscape and overall narrative of ARC Raiders, offering hints about what’s coming next.
5. New Areas To Explore Beyond The Rust Belt
The Voluntary Wipe Mechanic Hints At That Possibility
A unique feature of ARC Raiders is the option for a ‘voluntary wipe’ – a complete reset of your progress. This is done through the Expeditions Project, where players construct a Caravan and send it on a final journey deep into the Tubes, the tunnel network linking the city of Speranza to the remnants of the old world.
Once players finish this project and start an Expedition, their current Raider will be permanently removed. However, they’ll gain benefits and rewards that transfer to their next character. The developers have described this as a ‘Legacy System,’ suggesting future content will include temporary, event-based building projects. These projects will require resources and offer rewards like cosmetic items and permanent upgrades for Raiders. This system could also tie into new maps planned for ARC Raiders, expanding beyond the current Rust Belt area.
4. ARC Enemies Are Evolving
The Second Wave Is Worse Than The First
According to the story of ARC Raiders, the first enemies weren’t as advanced as the new, dangerous machines falling from the sky. This new threat, called The Second Wave, is a worldwide event and also the name of the game’s setting. Players join the ARC Raiders universe as citizens of Speranza and must fight against time to survive this escalating danger, or face total destruction.
The dangerous Harvesters are attacking, damaging the recovering environment and threatening the Speranza survivors. These survivors rely on risky scavenging trips to the Topside to stay alive. These attacks manifest as immediate threats – like the recent battle with the Harvester-Queen – as well as recurring dangers such as the intense Night Raids with increased ARC activity, and deadly Electromagnetic Storms that make the surface incredibly hazardous. We anticipate changes to the game based on how these ARC enemies develop, and hints suggest a large-scale event may be coming, potentially involving a powerful ARC Baron boss or a team-based battleground.
3. New Weapons And Technologies
An Arms Race To Stop The Second Wave Has Begun
Based on records from the World Codex and the Second Wave reports, Raiders are in a desperate race against time. They’re scavenging technology from before the world fell apart and bringing it to Speranza, hoping to find new methods for defeating ARC enemies.
ARC enemies – like Drones, Turrets, and tough creatures such as the Leaper and Rocketeer (which can quickly eliminate a whole team) – are protected by a strong alloy. Only the most powerful weapons can break through their armor. To keep up with these increasingly powerful foes, you’ll need to find new weapon blueprints. Future game updates may also include even more powerful weapons specifically designed to defeat ARC enemies.
2. Hostile Raider Settlements Might Be Out There
It Would Be Cool If A Faction War Gimmick Is Included
In the beginning of ARC Raiders, players face a dangerous encounter with AI enemies called Hostile Raiders. Shani explains that these Raiders are taking over settlements, indicating there’s a separate Raider group from the one based in Speranza. This other faction is somewhere in the Topside, or possibly another base within the Rust Belt.
If the game includes AI-controlled enemies that act like players, it opens the door for events where players team up to defend Speranza from a threatening rival group. This could also allow players to switch sides and become part of the opposing force as ‘Rogue Raiders,’ adding an exciting new dynamic to the game’s mix of player-versus-player and player-versus-environment gameplay.
1. Exodus Tech & Possible Human Faction Controlling ARC
Who Is The True Enemy? Perhaps That’s What Comes Next
The game’s backstory, found in the Exodus Codex Entry, suggests there was another group of humans who escaped Earth before the disaster. This entry describes people who managed to get on spaceships during the initial collapse. They apparently had advanced technology, remnants of which can now be rarely found on the surface. Long after their departure, the first wave of ARC robots arrived from space, descending upon the planet.
The connection between these two surprising discoveries might reveal where the ARC enemies attacking the planet in this ‘Second Wave’ actually come from. Some of them carry technology not found anywhere on the surface, but it’s similar enough to Raider tech—or could be quickly adapted into weapons and equipment—suggesting a human or at least comparable origin. This new wave of ARC attacks might be hiding something, and discovering that secret could become a major focus of the story soon.
