Embark Studios, developers of the game Arc Raiders, have announced that there will be no more public playtests before its scheduled release date on October 30th. This means eager fans will have to wait until then to jump back into the game. The title has already had two playtests, referred to as Tech Tests 1 and 2 by the team. Tech Test 1 took place from October 24-27, 2024, while Tech Test 2 ran from April 30 to May 4, 2025. Testers’ responses were generally favorable, with content creators streaming their experiences on platforms like Twitch and YouTube also expressing positive feedback.
Previously this year, Embark Studios briefly released an unannounced update for the Arc Raiders Playtest on Steam. Some quick-thinking players grabbed the update and examined its .exe file, revealing a concealed countdown clock set for June 6 – the day of Summer Game Fest. This discovery sparked speculation among gamers that either the complete game or an open beta would be presented at the event. Unfortunately, it was discovered later that the countdown wasn’t for a surprise launch (or shadow drop), but rather to announce the release date for Arc Raiders, causing disappointment among the community who had high expectations based on the marketing campaign.
Arc Raiders Will Not Have Another Playtest Before Release

In their blog post, the creators admitted that they understand the importance of moderated anticipation, since the fallout from the Arc Raiders deadline promotion is still being experienced. The excessive hype, which was mishandled, left a bad taste in many mouths. With a more open strategy, the studio aims to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Despite previous setbacks with delays, Arc Raiders appears to be on a stable October 30th release date, which seems firm. Given the impressive progress shown in Tech Test 2, it’s unlikely that further delays will occur, as there are currently no signs pointing towards one from the developers.
Some people worry that the fall season might be overwhelmingly filled with exciting games which could potentially pose a tough challenge for Arc Raiders. Notably, Battlefield 6 is scheduled to launch on October 10, thereby positioning both games squarely against each other. Given the high participation in Battlefield 6’s initial open beta, there’s a possibility that Arc Raiders might lose its primary player base to EA’s shooter once it is officially released.
