ARC Raiders Player Gets the Cops Called on Them

A player of the game ARC Raiders had a surprising experience: their intense gameplay attracted the attention of the police, who showed up at their home. Players of ARC Raiders are used to being alert, but this one didn’t anticipate needing to be in real life!

Since its release, ARC Raiders has been incredibly popular, regularly attracting hundreds of thousands of players each day on Steam. The developers have designed a really engaging game that keeps people playing, and one player seems to have gotten completely hooked, as this story shows.

A player of the game ARC Raiders, known as YoMopho on Reddit, shared a surprising story about an incident at their motel. While playing on their PlayStation 5, police knocked urgently on their door to perform a welfare check. Apparently, someone had reported hearing gunshots coming from the room.

Okay, so I was having a crazy run in the game. I’d just cleared out two Wolfpacks and snagged an Osprey sniper rifle – feeling pretty good! We even took down a Leaper with a random team. But then, on the way to extract, a Rocketeer got me. That’s when things got real. I was yelling into my mic – “I got shot!” “Help!” – trying to get my teammate to revive me, but they couldn’t reach me in time. Next thing I know, I’ve got the cops knocking on my door because my shouting must have bothered the neighbors! It was a total buzzkill after a good run.

So, a funny thing happened in the ARC Raiders community. Apparently, someone called the police on YoMopho, but thankfully they believed him when they saw his PS5 and headset! We’ve all been cracking up about it. One person asked if he tried using in-game emotes like ‘don’t shoot!’ on the cops, and he said he just yelled ‘friendly!’ It got me thinking, and a bunch of us shared similar stories. I mean, I once thought my neighbor was getting into a fight when he was just really frustrated with a game. And we’ve all accidentally slipped up and used gaming terms in public, right? Like talking about ‘planting the bomb’ when you’re just talking about something else, like in Counter-Strike. It’s a good reminder that not everyone gets our lingo!

It’s understandable to think reacting to the game ARC Raiders might scare people nearby, but it’s not the first time gaming has caused a stir. One player had the police called during a Silent Hill 2 remake session because their loud reactions to a boss fight worried neighbors. Another player experienced a similar situation with Pokemon GO, as residents found their gameplay suspicious. Luckily, both situations were resolved peacefully, and the Pokemon GO player even received an apology cake!

YoMopho likely wouldn’t have faced this problem if it weren’t for the helpful nature of ARC Raiders players. While ARC Raiders is a game where you compete against and cooperate with others, and players could attack each other for loot, many choose to help strangers instead. This is because the game’s dangers, like the ARC Raiders Rocketeer that targeted the original poster, are much easier to overcome when players team up. It’s probably a good idea to be careful about what you say when playing in crowded areas like a motel, though, so you don’t accidentally give away information to enemies.
