A new discovery in the game ARC Raiders revealed how it would play if viewed from a first-person perspective. While not fully polished, it’s a fascinating look at an alternate version of the game – one where Embark Studios had designed it as a traditional extraction shooter with a first-person viewpoint.
Before ARC Raiders, extraction shooter games like Escape From Tarkov and Arena Breakout: Infinite were the most popular options, and they were all played from a first-person perspective. While this made those games very immersive, ARC Raiders did something different and still became a hit. In fact, ARC Raiders is now considered the most successful game in the genre, and it introduced many players to extraction shooters. Recently, a new version of the game was released that plays more like its competitors, giving players a chance to see how that style feels within the ARC Raiders world.
This is What ARC Raiders Looks Like in First-Person
A Reddit user named Short_Satisfaction_9 recently shared a lengthy first-person gameplay clip of ARC Raiders, and it looks quite impressive. While playing in first-person might put you at a disadvantage compared to third-person, it’s incredibly immersive. This footage isn’t official, so there are some visual glitches and clipping issues, but it really showcases the quality of the game’s animations. Aiming seems to function well, and overall, the game appears surprisingly polished and playable.
A player named Short_Satisfaction_9 found playing ARC Raiders in first-person to be a unique and immersive experience, noting how much better the atmosphere felt up close. While they don’t believe the game needs a first-person mode, they’d still welcome it, even if it meant being at a disadvantage compared to players using the standard third-person view. Many ARC Raiders players have requested a first-person option since the game launched, but opinions are divided. One user suggested a good solution: separate game lobbies for first-person players to ensure fair play. Ultimately, ARC Raiders was built as a third-person shooter, so using first-person would intentionally put players at a disadvantage. However, it remains to be seen if the developers, Embark Studios, will add this feature.
Image via Embark Studios A player discovered a way to play ARC Raiders in first-person on PC by accessing the game’s console – something not normally allowed. This was also being used by some players to turn off graphics settings, giving them better visibility and an unfair edge over those on consoles. However, one player, Short_Satisfaction_9, intentionally put themselves at a disadvantage to capture some impressive video. The issue has now been fixed, which is positive because players were exploiting it for an unfair advantage. Unfortunately, fixing the problem also removed the ability to play in first-person, which is a shame, but ultimately a necessary trade-off.
While players have asked for a first-person perspective, it doesn’t seem likely to be added to ARC Raiders in the near future. The game still needs a lot of development work to make it function smoothly in first-person, and the developers are currently prioritizing other improvements. Despite this, ARC Raiders is doing well, consistently attracting over 300,000 daily players on Steam.
