A player in ARC Raiders had an unbelievably rare death in the game. Usually, players are defeated by other players or the ARC enemies, but environmental hazards like electromagnetic waves can also take them out. While getting killed by lightning is uncommon, this player experienced something completely unique – a first for the game, as far as anyone knows.
I’ve been totally hooked on ARC Raiders, and it’s easy to see why it’s been such a huge hit this year! I mean, the interactions with other players are always fun, and I’ve had some seriously hilarious moments while playing. When it first launched, over 481,000 people were playing on Steam at the same time – that’s incredible! Even now, almost two months later, it still pulls in around 300,000 players at peak times. So, I wasn’t surprised at all when it won Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards 2025 last week. The competition was tough, with games like Battlefield 6, Split Fiction, Peak, and even Elden Ring Nightreign all up for the award!
ARC Raiders Player Experiences Rare Lightning Strike Death
Let me tell you, ARC Raiders is full of cool moments, but this one takes the cake! I was scrolling through Reddit and saw a clip of a player having the worst death imaginable. They were trying to jump across one of the Launch Towers at Spaceport – it’s usually an easy jump, honestly – but they timed it horribly. Mid-air, they got struck by lightning and just… plummeted. It was crazy! Thankfully, they were playing with a friend, so hopefully they got revived and didn’t lose all their stuff. Losing gear in this game is rough, so I was really hoping their buddy could help them out!
Don’t worry about this happening in every game – it’s a very rare occurrence, and only possible when playing with the Electromagnetic Storm map setting. However, players are finding this unusual death incredibly funny! A recent post about it has already received over 15,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments. Many people shared how much the clip made them laugh, with one calling ARC Raiders an “incredible” game. Another player even shared a similar experience where they were saved by a lightning strike after falling between towers, avoiding damage from the fall.
It’s annoying to be eliminated in a game like ARC Raiders, but funny deaths can make it a little better. Since the game launched, players have been discussing ‘rats’ – people who pretend to be friendly then betray you. Some think betraying others should be penalized, while others point out ARC Raiders mixes PvP and PvE, so anything goes. However, you might want to think twice before repeatedly backstabbing teammates. Embark Studios reportedly uses a matchmaking system that tracks player behavior and puts similar players together. So, if you’re a frequent betrayer, you might find yourself in lobbies full of other backstabbers!
Good news for ARC Raiders players! The new Cold Snap update is launching today, December 16th, bringing exciting changes like a snowy map condition that will impact gameplay – and likely lead to some funny mishaps. The update also includes a new Raider Deck, a special event, and other improvements.
