Embark Studios is asking players to stay away from both ARC Raiders and The Finals right now. Both games are experiencing major DDOS attacks today, January 28th, causing connection problems. Many ARC Raiders players who tried to check out the new Headwinds update released yesterday have been unable to connect, resulting in lost items and progress.
Embark Studios kicked off the year with a big update for ARC Raiders after the holiday break. The ‘Headwinds’ update introduced a new environmental condition to the Buried City map, a community-focused project, and powerful new Augments – including one that lets players store a weapon directly on their character. While the update also included numerous bug fixes and gameplay improvements, many players were frustrated by connection problems they encountered after installing it.
ARC Raiders and The Finals Are Experiencing Major Server Issues
Players quickly reported connection problems after the latest update, with some even sharing funny but frustrating clips of gameplay failures caused by lag – like one player falling off a zipline. These connection issues have been causing players to lose progress and items. Now, the game developers, Embark, are asking players to stop playing both ARC Raiders and The Finals because both games are currently being targeted by a large DDOS attack. While the connection seemed to improve for a short time after yesterday’s update, the problems have returned and are making the games nearly impossible to play.
Embark Studios announced on their ARC Raiders Discord server that both ARC Raiders and their recently released game, The Finals, are currently being targeted by a large-scale DDOS attack. According to a community manager, their team is actively working to resolve the issue and is making headway, but the attacks haven’t stopped yet. The announcement was made at 7 AM Eastern Time / 4 AM Pacific Time, and as of this writing, there haven’t been any further updates.
So, things were a little rough after the latest ARC Raiders update, but the developers at Embark are on it! They’re still working to keep the DDOS attacks at bay, but they’ve also announced a hotfix coming out today to fix some accidental changes. Apparently, some of our favorite weapons, like the Kettle and Venator, had their fire rates slowed down, which wasn’t supposed to happen at all. They’ve confirmed they’re fixing that, and they’re also rolling back an accidental increase to looting times. It’s great to see they’re listening to us and working so quickly to get things back to normal – the hotfix should be live later today!
Embark hasn’t responded to player concerns about the new matchmaking feature in ARC Raiders. This feature allows solo players to face full teams, and many players are confused about why it was added, as it wasn’t a requested feature. The only reward for taking on a full team alone is a small amount of extra XP. However, since most dedicated players have already reached the maximum level, many feel the challenge isn’t worth the minimal benefit.
