So, Embark Studios finally showed us more about the first Expedition for ARC Raiders, but honestly, a lot of us in the community are pretty bummed about the rewards. Some are even saying it’s not worth it! The Expedition starts later this month, and while some of us hardcore players are ready for the reset, others are skipping it because we think the whole idea needs some work. It’s a bit of a mixed bag right now.
The ARC Raiders Expedition is Embark’s way of resetting the game, similar to a server wipe in games like Escape from Tarkov or Rust. However, ARC Raiders lets players choose if they want to reset their progress. While resetting does offer rewards like extra skill points (up to five), players can’t just reset for free. They need to build a caravan to move their Radar out of the Rust Belt. This caravan building phase lasts 60 days and requires a lot of resources. If players complete the caravan in time, everyone participating in the Expedition will reset their progress simultaneously.
Why ARC Raiders Fans Are Unhappy With the First Expedition
The idea behind this update was to give dedicated players extra goals and let more casual players keep making progress. However, the recent announcement has left many players on both sides of the community feeling let down. Embark Studios announced that resetting your progress will unlock a new outfit, a hat for your character, an icon for expeditions, extra storage space, and more skill points. The skill points are the main source of frustration, as players can only earn a small number of them for a very large amount of in-game items, which some see as encouraging hoarding and offering a poor reward for the effort.
After the announcement, players quickly began to debate whether the ARC Raiders Expedition was worthwhile. A popular Reddit post, with nearly 7,000 upvotes, pointed out that five million credits for five skill points felt like too high a cost, especially since reaching one million in stash value already took a significant amount of time. Another player expressed disappointment that they wouldn’t be able to use their gear freely before the wipe, a feeling echoed by others who enjoy spending all their loot without consequence right before a wipe.
Embark hasn’t explained the high cost of earning skill points in ARC Raiders, but they have detailed why their progression wipe is different from games like Escape from Tarkov. In a recent post, the studio acknowledged that balancing progression wipes in online multiplayer games is notoriously tricky. While wipes offer benefits, Embark wants to honor players’ time investment. Therefore, they’re giving players a choice: continue playing with their current progress, or restart with advantages for a fresh challenge.
Despite some fan debate about the game’s initial Expedition, ARC Raiders players have a major update to anticipate this month. Called Cold Snap, the update introduces a new Snowfall map condition, along with new Quests, a new Raider Deck, and a community event called Flickering Flames. The previous event unlocked Stella Montis, but the reward for Flickering Flames remains a mystery.
