Arc Raiders Reveals Unique Way It Deals with Progression Resets

Arc Raiders is introducing a new Projects system designed to address the common issues players have with progress being reset in extraction-based games. With the game launching at the end of October, fans are eagerly awaiting its release.

Many online games periodically reset player progress, effectively starting everyone over. This is common in survival and extraction games like *Rust* and *Escape from Tarkov*, with *Tarkov* usually doing a reset every 5–8 months. While these resets can be frustrating for players, the developers of Embark are trying a new approach to make them less disruptive.

Ark Raiders Has “Voluntary” Progression Wipes

Embark is introducing ‘Projects’ to *Arc Raiders*, a new feature available to players who reach level 20. The first project, called ‘Expedition,’ will run in repeating 8-week cycles from the game’s launch through December 21st. Embark notes that completing a project will require a significant time commitment, but progress will be saved even if you don’t finish. When a project ends, players will reset to level 1, losing their skills, items, workshop progress, and crafting abilities. However, any cosmetic items, achievements, awards, and purchased or metagame items will remain.

Embark recognizes that resetting player progress isn’t a perfect fix, but they believe forcing wipes in games like theirs doesn’t value players’ time. Instead, they’re offering optional resets with rewards, including permanent unlocks, exclusive cosmetics, and temporary account benefits that last for each new season. The more often a player resets, the stronger these benefits become, though they’ll only make progression easier, not more powerful. These rewards won’t give anyone an edge in combat.

People are eager to see how players react to this new system, especially since the game has generated a lot of buzz and positive feedback from earlier Arc Raiders playtests. Embark Studios created some excitement over the summer by hinting at a big announcement, leading many to believe the game would be released much sooner than the actual date of October 30th.
