With a cast that delivers exceptional performances and visuals that rival live-action productions, it’s no wonder they splurged $250 million on this series.

The groundbreaking TV series Arcane, produced by Riot Games, has been captivating audiences since its debut in 2021. As fans eagerly await the second season, it’s worth noting that a recent statistic reveals the substantial financial strain the show’s production placed on Riot Games.

According to an interview with Variety, Arcane has a total production cost of an astonishing $250 million, making it the most expensive animated TV show ever broadcasted on either traditional or streaming networks.

Money Well Spent

In a simple and conversational style: Arcane showcases an extraordinary cast, top-notch performances, and jaw-dropping graphics, which is typical of Riot Games’ animated series. The company has always aimed to create some of the finest visual content in the industry, like the dynamic animated ads they produce annually for the League of Legends World Championship.

During an interview with Variety, Marc Merrill, a co-founder at Riot Games, stated that they are committed to investing in high-quality animations, despite the potential for higher expenses.

Our ambitions in entertainment haven’t changed.
Initially, we didn’t plan to function like a conventional studio adhering to traditional deadlines. However, as we gained knowledge, our self-expectations evolved. We came to understand that achieving perfection requires more time than initially anticipated, so we adjusted our development process, production targets, and teams accordingly.
