In Episode 6 of Season 2, Viktor, who had been missing for several episodes before, reappears and is now recognized as the Herald. He has established a flourishing and harmonious settlement in Zaun. A significant portion of this episode delves into how Viktor can utilize his newly acquired arcane abilities. The depiction of these powers is reminiscent of Pixar’s Soul, portraying Viktor as a ghostly spirit traversing a vibrant universe of time, space, and consciousness. Since the killing of Salo in the previous episode, Viktor has been contemplating Jayce’s return, but he acknowledges that it is not the same Jayce. He confesses that there seems to be another force influencing Jayce, an old, chaotic entity impacting his thoughts.

Vi, Viktor, and Jinx Interact For The First Time

In Episode 5 of Arcane, following their family reunion, characters Jinx, Vi, and Isha journey to Viktor’s community with the hope of healing Vander. At first, it seems like an insurmountable task even for Viktor’s abilities, but he decides that Vander is worth the risk and begins untangling his mind from the beast’s influence. The animation in these scenes is some of Fortiche’s finest work, featuring Viktor and Sky battling through turbulent werewolf clouds to access Vander’s thoughts. Beautiful watercolor animations reveal Vander’s memories, showcasing cherished characters in their youth. Over time, under Viktor’s tutelage, they manage to subdue the beast. As they do so, Vi and Jinx discuss their future plans and contemplate remaining in Viktor’s community. Although Vi, Viktor, and Jinx haven’t shared much screen time together in Arcane before, this episode provides a wonderful opportunity for viewers to appreciate their unique dynamic.

Noxus and Piltover Arrive

Arcane Season 2 Episode 6 Review

Before Jinx and Vi become too comfortable, an intruding Noxian force, headed by Ambessa and Caitlyn, disrupts their peace. Ambessa is mentoring Caitlyn in Noxian customs, viewing them as kindred spirits. Upon reaching the Herald’s settlement, Singed steps forward to speak privately with Viktor. Aware of Viktor’s limited power and the potential destruction of his entire community when he perishes, Singed hopes for Viktor’s survival. He sees a chance in combining Warwick’s regenerative blood with Viktor’s peak form as a potential final evolutionary step that could save his daughter. However, Viktor holds a more mystical perspective and believes in the ultimate “magnificent evolution.” He is unwilling to part with Warwick.

Evolution has a destination, not to combat nature, but to supersede it. The final glorious evolution.

A Daring Plan Unfolds

After spotting a Noxian raiding party outside their gates, Vi accompanies Singed towards their camp, only to be confronted by Caitlyn along the way. The pair exchange some sharp words before Vi discloses her intention of rescuing her father. Soon after, Caitlyn delivers a restrained and rebellious Vi to Ambessa. With Singed executing his scheme, he causes a wound that triggers Warwick’s awakening. Meanwhile, Jinx is engaged in managing the community with Isha, whom she confesses she has grown quite attached to. Noticing Caitlyn and Singed at a distance, Jinx prepares to take aim, but then learns of the real plan unfolding.

In a thriller reminiscent of a “Mission: Impossible” plot twist, it’s disclosed that Caitlyn has switched sides, aligning with Vi instead of Ambessa. The speed at which this turn of events unfolds in “Arcane” might make the audience question Caitlyn’s motives, as they seem to materialize rather abruptly. Yet, there’s no pause for reflection, as “Arcane” hurtles towards its climactic confrontation. In this sequence, Caitlyn engages Singed while Vi manages to free herself and imprison Ambessa. Rictus, Ambessa’s associate, intervenes to aid her but is halted by Jinx, who comes to Caitlyn’s rescue. The ongoing tension between Jinx and Caitlyn is momentarily set aside due to Vander’s intervention, as he defends his daughter from Rictus’ attacks.

Jayce and Viktor’s Reunion Has Dire Consequences

As I step into the commune, I’m set on fulfilling my vow to dismantle Hextech – that’s Viktor for those in the know. With a modified Hextech hammer at the ready, I charge into his quarters, and as predicted by Singed, I shatter him, taking the life of my former comrade. Unfortunately, this cataclysmic event takes not only Viktor but also every enlightened soul within the community, including Vander. In an instant, I revert to my werewolf form, igniting a new wave of danger as Warwick. This sets off a chain reaction among the Noxians, leaving them with no choice but to attack.

In the midst of chaos and danger that threatened her newly formed family, young Isha resolutely acts. Grabbing a handful of Hextech gems and Jinx’s gun, she navigates through the fight, heading directly towards Warwick. The events leading up to this moment are intensified by heartwarming scenes of pencil animation depicting Jinx and Isha’s cherished memories together. Earlier, Jinx had confessed that Isha had transformed her life, but their bond runs deep, and Isha’s love and respect for Jinx motivate her to make a selfless sacrifice. As Jinx understands Isha’s plan, she frantically tries to prevent her, but Vi restrains her sister. With a final gaze at Jinx, Isha fires a Hextech blast at Warwick that explodes like a nuclear detonation. This heart-wrenching scene in Arcane may well be the most poignant so far, as it results in the swift destruction of three significant characters. Despite Viktor’s heavy-handed narration, he provides an insightful message in a quote reminiscent of fortune cookies:

That which inspires us to do our greatest good is also the cause of our greatest evil.

A significant portion of Act 2 in Arcane focused on mending relationships, but in an instant at the end of Episode 6, all those bonds were shattered. It’s uncertain how the characters will navigate their new circumstances, but the climax of Episode 6 certainly promises a highly dramatic conclusion to the Netflix series.

Arcane Season 2 Episodes 1-6 are now streaming on Netflix.
