Arcane Season 2 Will Be a Farewell, But League of Legends Can Make it Less Definitive

Arcane Season 2 Will Be a Farewell, But League of Legends Can Make it Less Definitive

As a long-time gamer with over two decades of League of Legends under my belt, I can confidently say that the anticipation for Arcane Season 2 has been a rollercoaster ride. The first season left us on the edge of our seats, and with Jinx’s symbolic rise and Vi and Caitlyn’s intense confrontation teased in the trailer, I’m as hyped as ever!

Fans have eagerly been waiting for Season 2 of “Arcane” ever since the final episode of Season 1 aired on November 20, 2021. The trailer hints that the story will continue immediately after Jinx assassinates the Piltover council, promising a rise of Jinx as a symbol of Zaun, intense encounters between Jinx and Enforcers Vi and Caitlyn, a glimpse of Jayce’s Mercury Hammer, and much more. The series, split into three acts set to release on November 9, 16, and 23, has fans thrilled at the prospect of the beloved “League of Legends”-inspired show making its return.

Some fans might find it disheartening to learn that the series Arcane will end with its second season. Yet, co-creator Christian Linke explained the rationale in a brief note, saying, “From the outset of working on this project, we’ve had a particular ending envisioned, which means the story of Arcane concludes with this second season. However, Arcane is merely the starting point for many more tales we intend to spin in Runeterra.” Given that League of Legends has over 160 champions, this news is exciting for its rich character lineup. Nevertheless, Riot Games could make the ending of season 2 a bit more open-ended.

Riot Is Actively Developing New League of Legends’ Series

A Third Season of Arcane Could Feature New Champions

In a scenario where a series or movie related to Valorant takes place in Runeterra, it wouldn’t fit because the creators have clearly defined them as separate worlds. On the other hand, all characters from League of Legends are connected within the same planet. Considering the massive popularity of Arcane, it seems logical for Riot Games to further exploit this success.

Initially, Valorant was believed to belong to the world of Runeterra, but later on, Riot Games decided to change direction and instead set the game in an alternative, near-future version of our own planet.

Presently, Riot Games is either developing or has produced the following games that are part of the League of Legends universe:

  • League of Legends (2009)
  • Teamfight Tactics (2019)
  • Legends of Runeterra (2020)
  • Wild Rift (2020)
  • Ruined King: A League of Legends Story (2021)
  • Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story (2021)
  • The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story (2023)
  • Convergence: A League of Legends Story (2023)
  • Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story (2023)
  • Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story (2024)
  • 2XKO (expected 2025)

Exploring Runeterra and League of Legends universe offers an abundance of tales across games, comics, and literature. While advancements in film and television have been relatively slow, with only Arcane and short videos being produced since the game’s launch in 2009, Riot’s entertainment president, Shauna Spenley, hinted at additional projects planned for both big and small screens as early as 2021. She cautioned, though, that these developments might take some time to materialize.

Riot’s Arcane Has More Potential Beyond Jinx and Vi

Arcane Season 2 Will Be a Farewell, But League of Legends Can Make it Less Definitive

Instead of just continuing “Arcane” as a single-perspective story, considering a new season that focuses on another character could add an exciting twist. It’s common for series to switch main characters when their original narrative reaches a satisfying conclusion. Intriguingly, some side characters, like Ryze who haven’t been deeply involved in the main storyline thus far, have hinted at future roles. Some viewers even believe that he may have appeared as early as Episode 2 of Season 1, and this theory has grown stronger after his possible appearance towards the end of the official trailer for “Arcane” Season 2.

Just like Season 1 of Arcane introduced several champions, this season is expected to bring in new characters such as Warwick, Orianna, and Janna. Furthermore, Mundo, Twitch, and Urgot may also make an appearance. Consequently, instead of wrapping up Arcane in November, it might be beneficial to introduce a fresh main character from one of these champions. However, if the creators’ predictions are correct and this is the final season for Arcane, there’s plenty of room for future shows to explore the rich narratives of other champions. It would also be intriguing for upcoming projects to reference the tension between Piltover and Zaun.
