- Some players think that Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket releases new expansions too frequently.
- The game has seen over 1,000 cards added in just 198 days, or about 5.5 new cards a day.
- While some players are complaining that they don’t have time to collect all cards from a set before the next is released, others applaud the consistent flow of new, free content.
Fans of the Pokemon TCG Pocket digital trading card game are engaged in discussions about whether the game is releasing an excessive number of booster packs. Since its debut in October 2024, the game has consistently introduced new expansions. Each set introduces or reworks Pokemon cards, gradually enlarging the collection available in Pokemon TCG Pocket. This ongoing release schedule has sparked debate among the community.
To date, the Pokemon TCG Pocket game has introduced six sets: three major and three mini expansions. The upcoming set, Extradimensional Crisis, is slated for release on May 29th. One of the game’s unique aspects is that all these expansions are available to players who don’t spend money, making it possible to gather most main cards without cost. However, there have been a few exceptions regarding promotional cards, which may require purchasing the Premium Pass or be hidden behind a paywall.
While free expansions for the Pokemon TCG Pocket game are appreciated by many fans, some players express concerns about their frequent release rate. These individuals argue that the speed at which new expansions come out exceeds their capacity to finish their collections from previous sets. Essentially, they don’t have enough time between releases to gather most or even all of the cards from the past set. Advocates for the developer’s approach assert that the regular release of booster packs fosters a balanced game environment. In their perspective, keeping up with Pokemon TCG Pocket’s current meta decks by regularly adapting prevents the Player vs Player scene from being controlled by overpowered or “Tier 0” decks.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Has Released Over 1,000 Cards
Reddit user EeK09 recently posted some interesting details about the game’s expansions and card count. Based on their calculations, developers have introduced a total of 1,098 new cards over a span of 198 days, which averages out to approximately 5.5 new cards per day. It’s important to mention that these numbers don’t account for the upcoming Extradimensional Crisis set in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
EeK09’s post has sparked a continuous discussion on booster pack release schedules again. Some players have mentioned that they will consider Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Celestial Guardians as their last expansion, expressing fatigue from the continuous flow of new launches. Conversely, others believe that regular free content should be embraced and collecting every card is not something to worry about.
Compared to Marvel SNAP, another well-known digital card game, which introduces roughly 5 to 6 new cards per season, Pokemon TCG Pocket’s expansions typically include around 170 new cards each time they are released. It appears unlikely that the developer, DeNA, will alter the size of the sets since opening booster packs forms a significant part of the gameplay. Nevertheless, there may be possibilities for them to extend the gap between expansions in the future, giving more players ample opportunity to complete their Pokedex.
