This article contains spoilers for One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.
Summary
- Straw Hats’ dreams are significant but overshadowed by larger story arcs.
- Individual dreams of crew members require hard work to achieve.
- Resolution of dreams may lack impact if not integrated well into the main storyline.
Dreams have consistently played a significant role in the narrative of One Piece. They serve as the primary driving force for most characters, connecting them all through their shared aspiration to achieve what appears impossible. Whether they are villains or heroes, the Pirate Age is teeming with dreamers who aim to reshape the world with their grand ambitions.
Over time, as the storyline expands, it appears that the significance of the original dreams of the Straw Hat Pirates is diminishing relative to grander narrative arcs such as Elbaf, Egghead, and Wano. Given that their aspirations initially drove the crew’s voyage, some fans are left questioning whether these dreams still hold importance within One Piece.
The Dreams Of The Straw Hats Are Some Of The Biggest In The Series
Without Hard Work These Goals Are Impossible To Accomplish
In One Piece, every member of the Straw Hat Pirates has their unique aspiration they wish to fulfill throughout the series. Apart from Luffy’s quest for the One Piece and becoming the Pirate King, each crewmate possesses a driving force that matches or surpasses Luffy’s ambition in terms of challenge. For instance, Franky dreams of traversing the Grand Line aboard his own vessel; Nami aims to map the world, while Sanji seeks the All Blue. These goals require an incredible amount of effort and determination to achieve.
That’s what I want at the end of my dream. – Luffy
As time progresses in the narrative of “One Piece”, it appears that the characters’ dreams become less frequently emphasized as significant aspects of their personalities. To illustrate, although Nami is suggested to have persisted with her global mapping project, this aspect has not been regularly highlighted, and the storyline hasn’t delved deeply into any engaging narratives related to her aspirations. Instead, the main focus often shifts towards grander tales that encompass the “One Piece” world at large, such as Wano and Egghead, which tend to overshadow the more modest dreams of the Straw Hats.
The Dreams Of The Straw Hats Took A Back Seat Post-Time Skip
This Is Even Worse In The Final Saga

- Other Elements Of The Story Take Priority Over The Dreams Of The Straw Hats
- Sanji In Particular Seems Unfocused On His Goal
An illustrative instance is Usopp’s present situation in Elbaf. Despite frequently expressing his ambition to be a valiant sea warrior and exploring Elbaf since it was his lifelong aspiration, so far, Usopp hasn’t had significant tasks on Elbaf. Conversely, the narrative concentrates more on the Giant Prince, Loki, and the God’s Knights, elements that have been gradually eclipsing the Straw Hats in importance day by day.
In essence, though these larger, global events, such as Loki’s confinement and the schemes of the God’s Knights, are captivating for the storyline, they seem to have diminished the significance of the Straw Hats’ aspirations in the grand picture. To put it simply, no character has brought up their dream of discovering the All Blue since the Whole Cake Island Arc in One Piece, which feels like a long time ago in terms of chapters and episodes. While Sanji doesn’t need to reference the All Blue every chapter, occasional progressions hinted at through finding a book about the All Blue or hearing an old song that speaks of the mythical All Blue would help keep their dreams pertinent.
Oda May Have Major Plans For The Resolution Of The Straw Hats’ Dreams
Fans Will Have To Wait Longer To See More Progress On Their Goals

Even though fans eagerly anticipate the Straw Hats realizing their dreams, the fulfillment might not live up to expectations when it finally occurs, given the way the narrative unfolds. In essence, some of the Straw Hats, particularly Sanji, may find their dreams materializing abruptly without much effort shown on their part, as per Oda’s conclusion for their character arcs. It would add a more rewarding touch if we occasionally witnessed their tireless efforts in the main story instead.
I’m going to find the All Blue! – Sanji
Ultimately, although the Straw Hats’ aspirations continue to drive them, in terms of the overall narrative, they no longer play a significant role. Regrettably, this is just a part of One Piece evolving and progressing, which inevitably means letting go of certain initial aspects. Fans can only hope that when these dreams are finally resolved by Oda, he will find a way to rekindle the magic they once held.
