As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tad exasperated by the latest turn of events surrounding Ark: Survival Ascended on Xbox and Microsoft Store. The delay in releasing the new DLCs, Extinction Ascended and Bob’s Tall Tales: Wasteland War, is like a tease – a tantalizing glimpse into a post-apocalyptic world filled with mechanical creatures and customizable cars, only to be told that I can’t have it yet.
The game “ARK: Survival Evolved” has recently introduced two new DLCs, namely “Extinction Evolved” and “Bob’s Tall Tales: Wasteland War,” however, players using Xbox and Microsoft Store are currently unable to access these due to a certification hold-up. Like previous expansions, these new DLCs, “Extinction” and “Wasteland War,” infuse fresh content into “ARK: Survival Evolved,” including new mechanical creatures and customizable vehicles.
As an improved version of 2017’s “Ark: Survival Evolved”, titled “Ark: Survival Ascended”, this game offers a similar open-world survival experience, but with better graphics and numerous user-friendly enhancements. Released in 2023, the title developed by Studio Wildcard has undergone multiple DLC additions, the latest of which was released on December 20. In contrast to the “Extinction” update that transports players into a Titan-ravaged post-apocalyptic Earth, the “Wasteland War” immerses players in a desolate setting filled with customizable vehicles known as BattleRigs. At present, the new DLCs are yet to be approved for release on Microsoft-owned digital storefronts.
On their official Twitter account, Ark: Survival Evolved announced that the release of Extinction Ascended and Bob’s Tall Tales: Wasteland War on Microsoft platforms has been postponed due to the update containing these DLCs needing additional time for certification. They mentioned that this process is currently taking four times longer than normal, and Microsoft is actively looking into the problem. Unfortunately, the developers don’t have much information about the issue at this time. It’s important to note that this isn’t the first time Ark: Survival Evolved has experienced a certification delay.
Ark: Survival Ascended DLCs Face Delay on Microsoft Platforms
The tweet from Studio Wildcard explained that they couldn’t delay the release of their upcoming DLCs any longer because they had more updates planned post-launch. To prevent Xbox and certain Windows users from falling behind, they also announced that they would temporarily halt item and dino uploads in the Extinction DLC until all platforms were equal. Furthermore, new game servers are expected to go live soon. Despite encountering a certification problem that delays the release of the new Ark: Survival Ascended DLCs on Microsoft platforms, Studio Wildcard has experienced a similar issue with PlayStation in the past.
In the meantime, enthusiasts have been anxiously waiting for updates about the sequel to “Ark: Survival Evolved,” titled “Ark 2,” featuring Vin Diesel. Initially announced in 2020, the game has undergone several postponements, with the most recent delay moving its release into late 2024. As of now, there’s no clear indication when exactly we can expect “Ark 2” to hit the shelves. Whether we’ll receive any news on this soon remains uncertain for the time being.
