Summary
- Helldivers 2 successful launch, post-release support.
- Studio boss takes sabbatical after 11 years working on IP.
- Arrowhead team continues updates while boss is on break.
2024 saw a delightful surprise in the form of Helldivers 2’s success. Not only did Arrowhead Game Studios execute a flawless launch, but they’ve also been consistently providing the game with numerous updates, enhancing the balance, introducing fresh content, and more.
As a gamer, I can see the success of Helldivers, but it feels like it didn’t come without its toll. Particularly for the head honcho at the studio, Johan Pilestedt, who’s been tirelessly working on this IP for an entire decade and eleven years.
Helldivers 2 Studios Boss Taking A Sabbatical
On Twitter/X, Pilestedt shared that he’s stepping away for a while to focus on his family, as he’s been consistently working non-stop for approximately 11 years, dating back from the launch of the first Helldivers game in 2015.
Pilestedt announces that he’ll be taking a break for a while. Many of you might wonder “why?”. To clarify, while you’ve enjoyed Helldivers 2 for nearly a year, he’s been deeply immersed in it since early 2016. As for Helldivers 1, his connection with it goes back to 2013.
Furthermore, Pilestedt points out that dedicating eleven years to working tirelessly on the same intellectual property has led him to neglect his family, friends, and even himself – including his wife. Now, he intends to take some time off to make amends for what was sacrificed during this period, thanks to those who have stood by him for over a decade.
After his return, the head of the studio plans to focus on developing the upcoming Arrowhead game.
During Pilestedt’s lengthy break, the remainder of the Arrowhead team will continue working diligently to produce updates, fresh Warbonds, and similar content.
In the year 2024, Helldivers 2 has become an unexpected blockbuster for Sony, setting fresh benchmarks on Steam for PlayStation sales. The game’s surge in popularity is not going unnoticed, with Sony leveraging this momentum as a live-action film based on it is currently being developed.
If you haven’t given it a try yet, I recommend changing that situation, because the game is still receiving significant updates, and there’s also crossplay available, allowing console and PC players to join forces. Our review of it was exceptionally positive, praising it for providing limitless action opportunities, countless instances of humorous friendly fire deaths, and an abundance of explosions visible from any vantage point.
