I’m a big fan of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, and a lot of other players feel the same way. While I’ve generally enjoyed the more recent, large open-world RPG Assassin’s Creed games, I still think Black Flag and the original trilogy represent the best of the series. That’s why the announced remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is so exciting, and it seems like we’re getting closer and closer to its release.
The upcoming remake of Black Flag is reportedly called Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, and I’m really excited about the prospect of playing as Edward Kenway with updated graphics. While it’s great to think about seeing Black Flag reimagined, we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves about the future of the Assassin’s Creed series as a whole. Even if Black Flag Resynced turns out to be an incredible remake, the series’ direction remains uncertain. Essentially, Black Flag Resynced is about revisiting a beloved classic, not predicting what’s next. Whether Ubisoft’s plans for the future of Assassin’s Creed will live up to the hype surrounding the remake is still unknown. Only time will tell if their ambitious plans for the franchise are successful.
Ubisoft is Planning to Release A Lot of Assassin’s Creed Games Before the Decade is Over
Several years ago, Ubisoft announced plans to release around 10 Assassin’s Creed games by 2029, including AC Shadows and a remake of Black Flag. However, most of the other projects are currently known only by temporary working titles that could change before official announcements. While early details about these upcoming games are interesting, they suggest Ubisoft might be trying to broaden the Assassin’s Creed series to attract all kinds of players. This strategy could be successful, but it also carries the risk of diluting what makes Assassin’s Creed unique.
What Assassin’s Creed Projects Are Reportedly Known to Be in the Works?
- Assassin’s Creed Jade
- Assassin’s Creed Hexe
- Assassin’s Creed Invictus
- Assassin’s Creed Nebula
- Assassin’s Creed Echoes
- Assassin’s Creed Raid
- Untitled Netflix series
We currently have the most details about these upcoming projects, but information is still limited. Beyond what we know, it’s uncertain what else Ubisoft is planning. Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed series was announced in 2020, and gained momentum last year with the addition of producers Roberto Patino (from Westworld) and David Wiener (from Fear the Walking Dead). While live-action video game adaptations are often hit-or-miss, Assassin’s Creed has potential with the right approach. However, the planned new games themselves are the most exciting developments right now.

Much of this information is based on unconfirmed reports and guesses, so it’s best to view everything about the future of Assassin’s Creed with caution. However, Ubisoft is reportedly planning a long-term strategy that includes a variety of game types and different story lengths.
Assassin’s Creed Jade
This upcoming game is a role-playing adventure for mobile devices, taking place in ancient China. The world looks fantastic, and it will be interesting to see how the gameplay from the main series works on phones. While phones can now handle high-quality games like the remake of Resident Evil 4, it’s unclear if dedicated Assassin’s Creed fans will embrace playing on mobile. However, mobile gaming is incredibly popular in China, and with its Chinese setting, AC Jade has the potential to be much more successful there than in Western markets like North America and Europe.
Assassin’s Creed Hexe
Fans of the original Assassin’s Creed games are likely to be most excited about AC Hexe. Ubisoft is developing several new games with different sizes and scopes, and AC Hexe is planned as the next major installment in the series. Unlike recent games, AC Hexe is expected to move away from large open worlds and focus on a more story-driven, linear experience. Set during the 16th-century witch trials in the Holy Roman Empire, the game will also incorporate horror elements, potentially including shape-shifting and magic. If done well, this could offer a unique and refreshing take on the franchise.

Ubisoft is currently working on three new multiplayer games within the Assassin’s Creed universe. While the series has experimented with multiplayer before – even Black Flag included a multiplayer mode – creating full-fledged multiplayer games presents a challenge, as they can sometimes feel like a temporary novelty. AC Invictus is planned to be similar to Fall Guys, featuring a series of competitive rounds. Details are scarce about AC Echoes, but AC Raid is believed to be a cooperative, four-player game where players work together against the environment.
Assassin’s Creed Nebula
I’m still trying to learn everything I can about the next Assassin’s Creed game, and honestly, the lack of official details is making me even more excited! I’ve heard rumors that AC Nebula will let us explore three totally different places: the Mediterranean, India, and even the Aztec Empire. It’s hard to say for sure what Ubisoft has planned, but the idea of jumping between those three locations sounds really ambitious – and could be amazing if they pull it off!
What Does Ubisoft’s Plans Mean for Assassin’s Creed’s Future?
It’s impossible to predict how well each new game will do, but Ubisoft is clearly investing heavily in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. While new Assassin’s Creed titles are promising, Ubisoft has faced challenges recently. The positive reception to AC Shadows and the potential of Black Flag Resynced offer hope, though Black Flag Resynced represents a past style rather than the new direction. Ultimately, the future remains uncertain. I’m a big fan and want Assassin’s Creed to succeed, but Ubisoft’s attempt to appeal to so many different players could lead to the franchise being overexposed, which might be difficult to recover from.
