In a recent interview, the director of Assassin’s Creed, Simon Lemay-Comtois, shared that the development team is committed to improving future games by addressing issues from previous titles, including a stronger emphasis on parkour.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been both a commercial and critical hit. While it might not be considered the best Assassin’s Creed game ever made, it’s a strong step in the right direction for the series. The game, and future updates, aim to recapture the feeling of classic Assassin’s Creed gameplay, with plans to introduce mechanics that let players control two characters simultaneously in upcoming releases.
Future Assassin’s Creed Games Will Learn From Mistakes

TopMob recently shared more information about the future of the Assassin’s Creed series, including upcoming games. With the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it’s clear the franchise has a lot more in store for players.
Simon Lemay-Comtois, the game director for Shadows, recently told GamesRadar that upcoming Assassin’s Creed games need to bring back a key gameplay feature that’s been absent.
We want to make parkour a more central and important part of future games. We’re actively working on improving it now with the ‘Shadows’ update, and we’re emphasizing internally that parkour is a key feature we need to develop further.
Fans of the older Assassin’s Creed games will recall a lot of climbing in Italian cities, but newer games focus more on large open worlds and exciting battles, with less emphasis on scaling buildings.
Players still want the core elements that made the original Assassin’s Creed games great. Recently, a new trend has emerged: stories that focus on two playable characters.
Lemay-Comtois has indicated that the system won’t be going away if it makes sense for the project:
Having two main characters can be tricky, and people often have surprisingly strong opinions about which one they prefer. It’s not always about the story itself – sometimes viewers simply connect with one character more than the other and don’t enjoy focusing on the one they dislike. We saw this with characters like Evie and Jacob, but the dynamic between Naoe and Yasuke seems to cause even stronger reactions. We anticipated this might happen and knew it could potentially divide our audience.
We’ve learned that making games with two main characters could work well, but only if it makes sense for the story and the game’s world.
The upcoming Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake will focus on a single-player experience and will heavily feature parkour. We want to hear your ideas for future Assassin’s Creed games! Share your thoughts on the TopMob Discord server.
