Assassin’s Creed Invictus Leak Paints a Bleak Picture of the Game

As a big Assassin’s Creed fan, I was really surprised to hear some concerning news. Apparently, the developers working on the next multiplayer project, called Invictus, aren’t thrilled with it – a streamer claims someone at Ubisoft told them so. It’s a bit worrying, especially since Assassin’s Creed Shadows was well-received, but Ubisoft has had a rough couple of years with some games not performing well. If this report about Invictus is true, it definitely doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence about what’s coming next.

The multiplayer Assassin’s Creed game, Invictus, was originally announced in 2022 as one of several new games in development. While previous Assassin’s Creed titles, starting with Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood in 2010, have featured multiplayer modes, Invictus generated a lot of excitement because it promised a completely new game designed from the start around multiplayer, rather than adding it as an extra feature to a single-player game.

Ubisoft Devs Reportedly Aren’t Happy Working on Invictus

Nearly four years after the initial announcement, there are now reports that the team developing Invictus may not be as enthusiastic about the project. Gaming leaker and streamer j0nathan claims a source within the development team has revealed that morale is low, and many developers aren’t confident in the ambitious multiplayer Assassin’s Creed game. According to the source, only management appears to be publicly positive about the project, and the team is unsure who the game is even intended for.

As a long-time fan, I’m really starting to worry about Invictus. I’ve been hearing whispers about problems behind the scenes, and a source is claiming the game is struggling with some major issues. Apparently, the animations are pretty rough, and the character designs are… well, not great – especially their faces. They’re also saying the sound and visual effects are just plain silly. What’s really concerning me, though, is the talk about adding dedicated combat arenas. That feels like a huge shift for Assassin’s Creed, which I’ve always loved for its focus on stealth. I’m hoping these reports aren’t true, because it sounds like they might be changing everything that makes the series special.

J0nathan has been critical of the game Invictus for some time, and his recent revelations seem to confirm his earlier concerns. Back in late 2024, he reported that Invictus would play similarly to the popular game Fall Guys, featuring 16-player elimination matches with modes like free-for-all, deathmatch, and parkour challenges. His latest report doubles down on these claims, predicting Invictus will be a failure, and also criticizes its visual style, which he compares unfavorably to Fortnite.

Ubisoft has been careful about sharing details of Invictus since it was first announced, and hasn’t released any official images. This makes it hard to know what information is accurate. Recently, Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming challenged some claims made about the game, specifically regarding how it looks. Henderson said early versions of Invictus resembled other Assassin’s Creed games, though with slightly less detailed graphics. He believes a presentation similar to Fortnite would be surprising unless the game has changed significantly since he last saw it. He also warned against relying on information from just one anonymous source, especially if that person seems unhappy with their work on the project.

Fans will have to wait a bit longer for a first glimpse of Invictus so they can get a better idea of what the game is like. While they wait, there’s talk that several older Assassin’s Creed titles might be updated to run at 60 frames per second. Plus, Ubisoft has hinted at the possibility of a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, though they haven’t officially confirmed it yet.
