Assassin’s Creed Mirage Getting Story DLC 2 Years After Launch—For Free

In a delightful twist, Ubisoft has revealed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to receive an unexpected story expansion pack! This bonus content will be absolutely free and promises to enrich the game by introducing a new location for exploration.

First introduced in October 2023, the game titled “Mirage” started off with one of the lowest ratings among the primary titles in the Assassin’s Creed series. Despite this, die-hard fans applauded its compact map and streamlined gameplay, contrasting it with the post-Syndicate games that transformed into action role-playing games from their original action-adventure format. Interestingly, Mirage was the first mainline installment to forgo story downloadable content since the 2007 original release.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Announces Free Story DLC With Sleek Concept Art

Approximately two years after its initial debut, it’s been confirmed that the game will indeed receive story-based downloadable content. Ubisoft made this announcement on August 23rd. As of now, the specific title for the expansion hasn’t been unveiled yet, but they did share some details. The upcoming content is set to introduce a new chapter and missions within the ancient Arabian city of al-Ula, which existed in the 9th century as an oasis. A captivating piece of concept art was also revealed showing the main character from Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Basim, approaching al-Ula from the east as the sun sets in the west.

Saudi Savvy Games Reportedly Financed New Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC

2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for me as a gamer, because I’ll get some awesome gameplay enhancements in the base version of my favorite games – and it won’t cost me a dime! This might seem odd for big-budget titles, but with a little digging, it all makes sense.

Earlier this year, word got out that Savvy Games Group, a subsidiary owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, had entered into an agreement with Ubisoft to create additional content for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The details of the deal were kept under wraps at first, but Ubisoft chose not to comment on it.

Now, it looks like this collaboration is the reason why Ubisoft is offering these free updates! I can hardly wait to dive back into these games with even more engaging content.

It’s worth noting that the choice of setting for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC being al-Ula, a region within Medina (Madinah), a province of contemporary Saudi Arabia, might suggest that the project is funded by PIF (Public Investment Fund). This is because if the funding comes from Savvy Games, the selection of setting would align with their backers’ interests.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Has Yet to Confirm DLC Platforms

In many cases across the gaming industry, additional content (DLC) for cross-generation games might be released without supporting older console generations. For instance, expansions like Phantom Liberty for Cyberpunk 2077, Burning Shores for Horizon Forbidden West, and Intermission for Final Fantasy 7 Remake have followed this pattern. However, it remains uncertain if the upcoming DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is still available on PS4 and Xbox One, will follow a similar approach, as Ubisoft has not provided any clear indications so far. Interestingly, the free al-Ula expansion may potentially be accessible even in the iOS version of Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
