Originally scheduled for release on Valentine’s Day, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is apparently no longer set for launch within the next few weeks. Ubisoft has taken to their platform X to inform us of this delay.
Every seven days, I’m gathering priceless insights from our gaming community. Even though we’ve already covered some serious ground, I think a handful more weeks will help us incorporate those suggestions effectively.
In common parlance, not many people consider something that lasts more than a month as “a few weeks.” However, here’s the news: The launch date for Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been set to March 20th, 2025.
In this formal announcement, there seems to be an attempt to win over players’ emotions, however, some have also pointed out alternative explanations for the delay, such as the potential acquisition of the company by Tencent.
I’m thinking along similar lines as MP1st. Maybe Ubisoft saw a more advantageous launch period, one that wouldn’t be too crowded with heavy competition.
There might be a reason why Ubisoft has chosen not to launch their game around the same time as Monster Hunter: Witches Sabbat or Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s release dates.
RockPaperShotgun has uncovered some intriguing news: a communication from Ubisoft addressed to their shareholders. In the context of a major deal, it appears that they are buying themselves time with this postponement, aiming to discover:
Multiple approaches involving strategic changes and financial methods, aimed at maximizing benefits for all parties involved.
If you found yourself losing focus while reading this, it means Ubisoft might be sold to Tencent according to recent reports. It’s not the first time such a possibility with Tencent has been mentioned.
Despite what’s happening behind closed doors among corporate executives, it’s clear that the release date for Shadow in Assassin’s Creed has been moved to March.
Or:
Regardless of any internal discussions at the company level, it’s confirmed that Shadow in Assassin’s Creed will now be released in March.
What A Delay Means for Assassin’s Creed Shadows
There’s been no hiding the fact that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has faced numerous controversies throughout its production process.
Due to predictable consequences, the presence of Yasuke sparked a common pattern of opposition followed by counter-opposition within the Assassin’s Creed gaming community.
As a devoted fan, I must admit that I’ve heard quite a few concerns about Shadows, and honestly, I don’t think these issues will be resolved with any additional time. However, it’s important to note that these criticisms weren’t isolated incidents; they came hand-in-hand with other points of view as well.
Although Ubisoft hasn’t specified which aspects of feedback they intend to address due to this delay, if assumptions about release date adjustments and Tencent acquisitions are merely speculations with no factual basis, we can anticipate observing what modifications have been made when the game is released in March.
And if not, well, that’s another mark in favor of Tencent becoming an even larger company.
