  • Unlike Odyssey and Valhalla, most romanceable NPCs in Shadows won’t be playersexual.
  • Naoe and Yasuke will hence have different romance options, with the game also being set to offer platonic relationships.

As a longtime Assassin’s Creed fan with hundreds of hours spent exploring open worlds and uncovering historical mysteries, I’m excited to dive into the next installment in this beloved franchise: Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The recent revelations about the game have piqued my interest even more, especially when it comes to the romantic encounters and character development.

In a recent interview, an representative from Ubisoft disclosed some fresh insights about “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” among which was the announcement of same-sex romantic possibilities. However, the manner in which romance is approached in this new installment of “Assassin’s Creed” may vary slightly from its preceding titles.

In both “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” and “Odyssey,” same-sex romantic relationships were included as an option. “Odyssey” offered a larger selection of 14 potential partners, while “Valhalla” had 12. The protagonists in each game could develop intimate connections with any of these characters they chose.

Naoe and Yasuke Will Have Different Romance Options in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In an interview with YouTuber JorRaptor by TheGamer, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows’ Associate Narrative Director Brooke Davies revealed that the new game will include same-sex romance options for the characters Naoe and Yasuke. Ubisoft, however, is shifting away from having sexually explicit NPCs and instead intends to provide distinct romance paths for these two characters. The motivation behind this decision comes from the fact that Naoe and Yasuke possess unique identities and roles within the narrative, differing significantly from their counterparts in Valhalla and Odyssey.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Will Also Offer Some Platonic Relationship Options

In an intriguing disclosure, Davies added that the main characters in “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” can explore deeper relationships, some of which are non-romantic. Regarding romantic entanglements, Davies clarified that the game won’t focus solely on dating but will provide a mix of significant and casual relationships. Additionally, Naoe and Yasuke have the freedom to pursue romantic interests with both male and female characters. These interactions are not essential, allowing players to make specific story decisions.

According to the given information, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” might develop romance in a way similar to “Valhalla,” but with fewer playable romantic interests. Giving NPCs defined sexual orientations could add authenticity to the game’s setting.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is Removing Meditation Time Skips

During the same interview, Davies shared some more information about “Assassin’s Creed Shadows.” Yasuke won’t put on a hood like Naoe, and the seasons will alter automatically according to an internal clock rather than following the game’s narrative progression. Unlike previous installments, players won’t be able to use the meditate function to fast-forward time at their convenience. Most Templar targets can be accessed throughout the four seasons; however, the way to reach them will vary significantly depending on the in-game season.
