Ubisoft announced that certain visual elements will be altered in Japan to meet the standards set by the Japanese Classification and Rating Organization (CERO).
As a passionate fan, I wanted to share that due to regulatory requirements, the Japanese release of “Assassin‘s Creed Shadow” (CERO:Z) might have slightly different dialogue compared to other versions, aiming for compliance with local reviewing authorities.
As a devoted gamer, I want to share an update about the game settings. Now, there’s no option for me or any player to sever enemy heads or limbs throughout the gameplay. The graphic depiction of bodily injury has also been modified.
After receiving a ‘Z’ rating from the Japanese classification board CERO, indicating the game is not suitable for anyone over 18 due to its excessive violence, Ubisoft has made adjustments so that the game can now be sold in Japan, although it will still carry the CERO ‘Z’ rating.
On previous occasions, Japan has enforced rigorous regulations on video games as well. For instance, in 2023, CERO prohibited the release of Dead Space Remake because of its graphic violence, and in 2022, they banned The Callisto Protocol for similar reasons. Conversely, Stellar Blade received a CERO D rating, indicating that it is not suitable for players under the age of 17.
After experiencing two setbacks, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is now set to debut on March 20, 2025, available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and personal computers.
