In the game, “Assassin’s Creed: Shadows,” players will encounter several crucial characters throughout their journey, some of whom can be summoned during combat. This aspect recalls the franchise’s earlier games, where characters like Ezio could enlist help from fellow ‘Brotherhood’ members in battle. In “Shadows,” locating these allies can be challenging and may necessitate a deep dive into exploration and completion of side-quests. A common question among players is whether it’s possible to enhance the skills of these allies after they’ve been recruited, given the escalating combat difficulty. This guide will address that question and demonstrate where and how you can train your allies in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.
Where to Upgrade Allies in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Get Your First Ally in AC Shadows:
In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the first character you can enlist as an ally is a skilled warrior monk named Yaya. Specializing in close-range, hand-to-hand combat, she can be recruited by finishing the “Stray Dogs” mission. This task is one of the earliest missions in the game and is hard to overlook.
At the Hideout, Yaya will task you with tracking down Tetsuo, a young apprentice who has made off with something of immense value to her. Finish the mission and if you manage to persuade her to show mercy, she’ll become an official ally in the League, ready for your call in battle.
Construct the Dojo

After securing an ally, your next step is to head over to the Hideout and switch to Build Mode. You can achieve this by either approaching the structure in the main Hideout building or waiting for the ‘Improve Hideout‘ prompt to appear anywhere on the Hideout grounds when you’re holding Y/Triangle. Once the prompt shows up, press X/Square to enter the build interface.
In the lower right part of the ‘Main Rooms’ segment within your Build menu, you’ll come across the location for the Dojo. To construct this Dojo, you’ll need these specific resources.
- Crops: 350
- Wood: 260
- Minerals: 90
After constructing your Dojo, you’ll gain the power to elevate your allies to the level of Initiates. Additionally, you’ll have two opportunities to enhance your Dojo. Each enhancement calls for specific resources to complete.
Dojo Level 2: Two Allies can assist you instead of one.
- Crops: 470
- Wood: 350
- Minerals: 120
Dojo Level 3: Allies can be trained up to Veteran rank.
- Crops: 700
- Wood: 520
- Minerals: 170
How to Upgrade Allies in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Kakurega & Dojo Ally Board:
After obtaining an ally and constructing your Dojo, you’ll be all set to start enhancing or teaching them – in-game terms are “upgrading” or “training.” Interestingly, this process can occur in two distinct spots. The primary location is the Dojo, but training can also take place at any opened Kakurega. This flexibility comes from the fact that both locations provide access to the Ally Management Screen, where you oversee your allies.

Upon entering the Dojo, you’ll notice a big board on your right-hand side against the shorter wall. Go towards it to “Oversee Your Allies“. You’ll spot a smaller replica of the board at each Hideout (Kakurega).
Here’s another way:
When you step into the Dojo, there’s a sizable board on your right-hand side near the short wall. Approach it to “Handle Your Allies“. You’ll find a scaled-down version of the board at every Concealed Location (Kakurega).
Training Allies:

To improve your allies, navigate to any of the ally panels. When you engage with them, you’ll be presented with the primary ally interface. Over the ally you wish to enhance, hover and then click the ‘Manage Ally’ option in the lower right corner. In the subsequent menu, you’ll find a list of abilities displayed on the right side of the screen. With each level up of an ally, you’ll unlock one new ability.

In the game, you need the currency, called Mon, to educate your allies. If you possess sufficient Mon, a notification will appear in the bottom right corner of your screen.
The process will work the exact same whether you use the ally boards at the Dojo, or a Kakurega.
To advance to the Veteran rank with any ally, it’s essential that you first elevate your Dojo to level 3 .
