Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes you on a journey to Japan’s turbulent past, more precisely to the Azuchi-Momoyama period, a time marked by constant conflict and struggle for power.

Given the historical context of this era, it’s understandable that you’ll frequently encounter conflicts while exploring. In fact, a significant portion of your journey will be spent engaged in battles.

Gladly, the game grants me the opportunity to bring comrades aboard, making certain challenges within it less daunting. Here’s how I can leverage my allies in Assassin’s Creed: Shadow’s world to aid me on my journey.

How To Find & Recruit Allies

In the course of the game, allies may appear at various points, proving particularly useful during tough battles or when you’re overwhelmed by adversaries. It’s optimal to utilize their assistance in such critical moments.

Initially, all allies will begin at the Novice level. As you progress with your hideout and advance in the main storyline, you’ll gradually acquire the capacity to enhance these allies.

When you successfully construct and enhance your hideout’s Dojo (a remarkable edifice among your options), it grants you the ability to advance your allies to the Initiate and Veteran stages. This upgrade will in turn reveal additional unique abilities they possess.

She can poison enemies and put them to sleep.
Yagoro
  • A Blade in the Dark
He can assassinate enemies close to death.

In the course of the game, there are multiple opportunities where you might fail to gain an ally. It’s crucial to make every effort to assist, motivate, and sustain their survival. Fortunately, having one ally doesn’t prevent you from recruiting another, so it’s beneficial to recruit as many allies as possible for the additional support they can provide.

How To Use Allies In Battle

One aspect you may find challenging is summoning your allies to join the fight, as this is primarily what they’re designed for within the game. The guidelines for doing so might not always be clear-cut, so mastering the technique independently will be essential for effectively utilizing them.

Here’s a breakdown of the button prompts you will need to select:

  • PC: 5 (for ability 1) or 6 (for ability 2)
  • Xbox: LT + A (for ability 1) or Y (for ability 2)
  • PS5: L2 + O (tap for ability 1 and hold for ability 2)

As a gamer now, with my powerful friends standing beside me, there isn’t a single quest or foe I won’t conquer. Just remember that you can enhance your comrades in the Dojo by spending Mon, but if we want to advance to Veteran rank, our Dojo must first reach level 3.

It’s strongly advised to upgrade your allies at the earliest opportunity. Certain Veteran ranks come with passive abilities that are activated automatically on the global map.

For example, At the Veteran level, Gennojo can momentarily stun opponents just as they become aware of your presence, providing a strategic advantage for your covert maneuvers.

If you’re encountering problems when calling upon your allies in battle, ensure that you’re targeting the exact enemy you wish them to assault. This is often the primary cause of summoning troubles for players.
