As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say the recent developments in Astro Bot’s world have me more excited than ever! The hints of potential crossovers, especially the possible appearance of Tomba, is music to my ears. It’s not every day we get to see classic characters from yesteryears making a comeback in modern games.

It looks like there might be additional downloadable content for Astro Bot, potentially featuring Tomba as a new character. This information comes from a recent update noticed in the game, which was pointed out by an observant player of Astro Bot.

On September 6, Team Asobi’s highly praised platformer game made its debut. Shortly after, the Japanese developer unveiled a series of free DLC for the game, which included five speedrunning levels. The final content from this series, titled “Astro Bot‘s Rising Heat,” was released on November 14.

It’s possible that more content for Astro Bot might still be on the horizon, hinted by recent updates to the game’s credits. Reddit user AssanChop pointed out this change, which now includes a reference to Tomba Special Edition. This suggests that characters from the classic game like Tomba could potentially join the popular platformer in the near future.

Tomba Is Currently More Relevant Than It’s Been in Years

First introduced back in 1997 exclusively for PlayStation, the game Tomba has recently resurfaced in an updated version known as the Tomba Special Edition. This revamped edition hit the shelves on August 1, available on PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Given that the classic platformer is experiencing a newfound relevance after years, the idea of a potential crossover with another popular game like Astro Bot isn’t entirely out of the blue.

It’s not just Tomba Special Edition that could potentially crossover with Astro Bot, as suggested by recent hints in the game’s credits. Previously, appearances from both Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade were teased in advance using similar methods. Interestingly, the current version of Astro Bot‘s credits also lists several Ubisoft franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Beyond Good and Evil, and Rayman. Similarly, there are mentions of Worms and Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. However, as of now, none of these intellectual properties have been integrated into the game.

All Potential Astro Bot Crossovers Mentioned in the Game’s Credits

  • Assassin’s Creed
  • Beyond Good & Evil
  • Croc: Legend of the Gobbos
  • Rayman
  • Tomba Special Edition
  • Worms

The first set of downloadable content (DLC) for Astro Bot consisted of five themed stages. Currently, the game’s credits suggest there may be more crossovers for a second round of DLC of similar size. Since all the post-launch levels for this platformer have been free so far, it’s possible that any new DLC will also be given to players without additional cost. If Team Asobi is indeed planning more content for Astro Bot, it probably won’t take long before they announce it. Since October 17, the game has been adding a new speedrunning level every Thursday, free of charge.
