Over the last few months, Astro Bot has burst onto the stage as an exceptional exclusive title for PlayStation 5. Whether its reported 1.5 million sales during this period resulted in profit for Team ASOBI’s 3D platformer is uncertain, but there are valid points to suggest it did and to argue that it could achieve profitability during the holiday season. Regardless of the exact truth, Sony’s investment in Astro Bot as a console game seems to have been successful, and it appears they have another promising IP and studio on their roster.
As a devoted PlayStation fan, it’s exciting to envision the future steps of Astro Bot and Team ASOBI, although their next moves remain shrouded for a couple more years. In a time when Sony needs more triumphant PR victories, the mascot platformer evokes memories of another PlayStation celebration – PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. Developed by SuperBot Entertainment in 2012 and supported by the now renowned Bluepoint Games and Santa Monica Studio for both PS3 and PS Vita, it shared sales figures similar to Astro Bot, despite a less favorable reputation.
Astro Bot Managed To Produce A Strong Final Boss
Instead of just Captain Astro leading the cast of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2, the universe of Astro Bot brings a wealth of potential to a fresh PlayStation fighting game. While transforming all its characters into Bots might not work, keeping the fully proportioned versions of the original PSASBR is preferred. However, Astro could make sense of their worlds merging through his interstellar explorations. Moreover, Astro Bot offers a compelling “why” for PlayStation All-Stars 2, as it boasts an adversary that would be ideal for another epic showdown.
Space Bully Nebulax Is A Simple But Effective Antagonist
As a diehard Astro Bot enthusiast, you might find it intriguing to know that the Astro Bot universe isn’t just the latest game you’ve played. In fact, it boasts a small but captivating cast of characters that have evolved over three games! Of course, Captain Astro is the star, but let’s not forget Nebulax, the giant green alien who has been our hero’s nemesis since the days of Astro Bot Rescue Mission for the PS VR headset. This colossal cosmic antagonist was the final boss in both Rescue Mission and the original Astro Bot, and even makes a grand appearance in the PS5’s pack-in game, Astro’s Playroom. The climactic T. rex battle at the end of this game draws heavily from Nebulax’s initial confrontation. While he may not have a complex backstory, his punchable visage has become the focal point for the series’ epic boss fights!
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2 Would Be Great Stomping Grounds For Nebulax
In every confrontation, Nebulax manages to thwart the Bots, making him an excellent choice for the antagonist in a new edition of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. The concept can easily be established within a brief trailer or opening sequence, and given his vast collection of devices, Nebulax could introduce intriguing twists for the final arcade or story mode battle. Despite not having Captain Astro’s renowned status, Nebulax boasts a charming persona that could engage even the most serious PlayStation characters, making him an ideal candidate for a crossover fighting game boss character.
Nebulax Could Put PSASBR’s Old Boss To Shame
It’s great that he is included, as the other option isn’t very appealing. Originally, the final boss in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was Polygon Man, a retired North American Sony PlayStation mascot. While his inclusion made a strong first impression, it was his only notable feature. Unfortunately, Polygon Man’s battle quotes were repetitive, and he used cloned characters to fight, making him as forgettable as his real-life counterpart. In a potential PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2, replacing Polygon Man with Astro Bot‘s Nebulax could provide a more enjoyable experience and offer more opportunities to delve into PlayStation’s rich history.
