Atelier Yumia Beginner Tips

Experiencing Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land has been a rewarding journey. Having played games like Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, and Honkai Star Rail, I was accustomed to titles featuring lively characters and captivating narratives. Fortunately, Atelier Yumia delivered on these aspects quite well.

I recently tested out a novel combat mechanism, experienced fresh aspects typical of Japanese Role-Playing Games (JRPGs), and ventured into uncharted territories, unaware of the challenges that lay ahead.

If you’re a novice in the world of JRPGs and giving Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land a go for the first time, I’m confident these beginner suggestions will make a big difference for you.

10. Don’t Rely On Button Mashing

It Works Until It Doesn’t

It took me by surprise to discover that the characters possess various abilities based on their combat distances.

Regardless of where you are positioned, the abilities of your character will adjust based on whether it’s within the inner or outer range, and depending on a surge of energy (Mana). These adjustments may not be dramatic, but they will exhibit differences.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’d say: In simpler modes or against less formidable foes, you might get away with blindly pressing buttons to defeat them. But when it comes to taking down bosses, you’ll need to be quick on your feet and adept at dodging their devastating attacks that could wipe out your entire party or current character in a single blow.

As a passionate gamer, I found myself mindlessly clicking on ability keys during battles against mobs. However, my repeated defeats against the initial boss made it clear that something needed to change. Therefore, I strongly recommend honing your skills in dodging enemy assaults to successfully advance through fights.

9. Use The Map Tracker

Exploration Made Easy

In an expansive, open environment, it’s inevitable that you’ll run into distinctive creatures and might need to engage in combat. Occasionally, your journey may lead you to confrontations where you’ll have to battle hordes of these creatures as part of specific missions or quests.

In this particular game, conflicts and discoveries are intrinsically connected. Yet, what sets it apart from other open-world games I’ve encountered is that exploration here feels less convoluted. Unlike some previous titles where I had to consult a map frequently to locate concealed goals or treasures, in this one, the exploration seems more straightforward and intuitive.

All you have to do is simply look at the map, follow the question mark symbol, and discover what it leads to. I don’t know what I might find, but I’m not complaining as there’s an exciting element of mystery. It could be a monster’s lair, a place of worship, or a hidden treasure.

– Simplified sentence structure for easier reading
– Changed “open the map” to “look at the map,” assuming that the map is already accessible
– Added “you might find” instead of “I don’t know what I might find” for clarity
– Used “discover” instead of “find what it leads to” for a more natural flow
– Changed “it could be” to “It could be a…” for clarity and added a comma after the introductory phrase “It could be”
– Added “or” between the three possible outcomes to make the list sound more natural

Indeed, my recommendation is to focus your attention on the question mark symbols shown on the map as they indicate unexplored regions, which you might want to examine more closely.

8. Change Your Party Setup For Each Boss

Different Challenges Require Different Approaches

As a gamer, I’m thoroughly blown away by the level of character customization this game offers, particularly the ability to adjust their AI tactics. It’s amazing how I can strategize my approach based on the kind of boss I’m up against!

Apart from this, it’s simply amazing how effortless it is to adjust the threshold for activating specific items. As you advance, an increasing number of characters will become part of your Research team, allowing you to customize their attack range, evasion, support item preferences, and healing item priorities.

As a seasoned gamer, I find that each character possesses unique abilities for both close-quarters and long-range combat. To tailor my strategy to the kind of squad I want to build, I can switch up their fighting styles.

Regarding battle configurations, I strongly advise exploring the latest additions of gear and weaponry for your characters. Experiment with which ones boost their statistics and opt for those enhancements.

As I glide over the items, I can’t help but notice the shifts in their stats. I’m always on the lookout to outfit my character with the finest gear and weapons available.

7. The Synthesis Mechanic Has Different Settings

Scary At First, But Rather Easy

I’d never deceive you by claiming extensive combat or gameplay experience. There are countless games with distinct mechanisms, and one such intriguing feature is the Synthesis mechanic found in Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land.

At the beginning, I found it intimidating as I’m not accustomed to intricate detailing in customization. Despite my enthusiasm for personalizing characters, abilities, gear, and weapons, I wasn’t prepared for such a complex system. But the game offers a user-friendly solution for beginners.

You have several possibilities at your disposal to create an item. The quality, impact, simplest version, or personalized touch are all in your hands. For tasks, it’s best to opt for the most basic (bare minimum) option to meet the requirements effectively.

And if you plan to take on bosses, you can choose between Quality or Effect.

Prior to making your final choice, feel free to examine the specifics and data for each alternative. Identify which aspect, be it Quality or Effect, aligns more with your preferences, then select the one that seems most appropriate to you.

6. Rely On Savescumming

Good For Experimentation

If you’re just starting out with this game and understanding how everything works, it would be helpful to try things out a bit to get a feel for what various weapons and items do. Additionally, to fully comprehend the differences between some of these items, you may need to invest heavily, using scarce resources, in their creation.

In other games, if there’s no checkpoint for you to return to, it could be a problem. But that’s not the situation with Atelier Yumia. If you reach the final stages and wish to evaluate top-tier weapons or combine them with all your resources, you can simply create a new save file and start again from there.

Here are two files I’ve saved on my system. One of them contains the build that assisted me in defeating the final boss; the other one is where I tried out different builds for experiments.

This aspect is ideal for testing out different scenarios, especially if you enjoy creating distinct setups with various gear and items. To get the most out of it, I strongly advise saving your progress frequently in several different files so that you can easily keep track of each one.

5. Hoarding Pays Off

Save Rare Materials

It’s not necessary to mention this, but it aligns with what we discussed earlier. I wouldn’t suggest perfecting your items right away. Instead, you should add particles to items to make them stronger, and the stronger an item is, the more useful it will be in a fight.

To optimize your gameplay, it’s beneficial to accumulate resources. As soon as you engage in battles with the bosses, you can concoct superior items by utilizing these resources. It is imperative to examine the effects of the items prior to enhancing or synthesizing them. This ensures that you are making the most informed decisions regarding your crafting process.

If you enjoy building characters who can heal themselves through their attacks by creating items with life-stealing properties, I strongly suggest you invest the finest resources in those characters.

4. Have A Dedicated Home Base

One For All

Unfortunately, there isn’t cross-base resource sharing in ‘Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land’. This means that although you can construct facilities in various spots on the map, the resources remain separate for each base.

It’s more advantageous to have just one centralized base with all the necessary resources. I appreciate not having to meticulously store resources in crates, a handy aspect of this setup. Yet, the fact that resources cannot be shared between bases is a significant drawback that should not be underestimated.

For a smoother gaming experience as you advance and uncover additional areas, I recommend consistently using the traditional Atelier base located in the Ligneus region.

3. Use The Guide

A Handy Tool

You can tap the Tab key on your keyboard to open a screen displaying several menu items. Among these are New Campaign (Pioneer Mode), Battle Configurations, and Tactics. One of those options is also named Guide.

The unique aspect of the Guide option lies in providing an approximate count of discoveries made. Apart from listing their effects, functions, and components, it occasionally reveals their collection points, making the gaming experience more immersive.

Instead of navigating to YouTube or a map to locate an item’s hotspot, consider opening the guide for information on the item. The guide is particularly useful as it marks the locations of monsters, items, and other collectibles as well.

2. Strategize The Skill Tree

Prioritize What Matters

Each person has a preferred approach when it comes to playing the game. You could concentrate on areas such as Exploration, Combat, or Synthesis, and allocate valuable skill points and energy prisms to advance these particular abilities. Nevertheless, I would advise against putting too many resources into EXP skills.

Before accusing that EXP is essential for leveling up and seemingly attacking with insults, let me explain. In the course of combat, you’ll encounter numerous monsters. As you advance into higher-level zones, known as end-game regions, these enemies will reward your characters with a substantial amount of EXP.

In simpler terms, you won’t need to focus on raising each character individually. Instead, all your characters will advance together. As you venture into new areas, engage with tough enemies, and gather valuable loot, the game automatically grants significant experience points.

Instead of pouring a lot of resources into EXP abilities, I strongly advise focusing on improving your chances of obtaining rare items (drop rates) and increasing synthesis efficiency. The benefit of upgrading your gear over time is significant for future progress.

1. Don’t Speedrun The Story

It’s An Experience, Not A Rat Race

Indeed, I often find myself rushing through games in a speedrunning fashion, but I did savor every moment while completing “Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land.” Everyone has their unique approach to gaming, and I’m not one to impose my style on others.

Let me explain. This game seems akin to an anime series, as we navigate the narrative, empathize with characters, participate in enjoyable side activities, and traverse various zones.

At the start, I was unsure, but as I got the hang of it, I found enjoyment in it and wished for more moments with that pastime. If you’ve got plenty of time on your hands, I recommend finishing the game and savoring each step along the way.

Instead of rushing through the game in under 20 hours, consider taking your time to delve into various unexplored areas, construct bases, and engage in side quests rather than focusing on speed running. This approach will ensure a more immersive experience.
