In the rear section of the Village Hall, Captain Sims maintains a secure Protocol Documents Box, which he keeps under lock and key. This box holds valuable items, but only Atomfall players can obtain the key to the Protocol Documents Box by either engaging in the Protocol directly or by acting cunningly to discover its whereabouts, essentially playing “tricksters” or “mischief-makers”.
The key to the Protocol Documents Chest can be found nestled in the picturesque yet perilous Wyndham Village, right beside the Village Hall – the very place where the chest itself resides. However, obtaining the key proves challenging regardless of the approach you take.
How To Get The Protocol Documents Chest Key
So Close, And Yet, So Far
In the game ‘Atomfall’, you’ll find the Protocol Documents Chest at the summit of the eastern watchtower, right in the heart of the village. This location is under tight surveillance by Protocol soldiers in armor, and it stands prominently, so any nearby soldiers can easily see it.
Head towards the watchtower located northeast from the Grendel’s Head pub, which is on the western bank of the eastern river. Avoid crossing the heavily guarded fences as it may lead to conflict with nearby troops. Instead, circumvent the building to find a shed with an opening you can use for stealthy access.
Step into the shed, then ensure you’ve quicksaved or reverted to an earlier save for any potential mishaps leading to your character’s demise, saving valuable time. Keep in mind that there’s a chance you’ll spot a band of Protocol soldiers guarding the vicinity if you peer through the shed door. In this scenario, you have two choices:
- Wait until the coast is clear, then sneak out and head toward the ladder that leads to the rooftop.
- Make a distraction, like throwing a Molotov Cocktail to the north side of the building before you enter the shed. If you don’t hit anyone, soldiers will be drawn to the location and away from the ladder.
To stay out of trouble, you’ve got to move swiftly. Scale the ladder leading up to the rooftop of this Protocol complex, and there you’ll find a solitary watchtower guard. Make your choice: either take him out or quickly dash past him. Up at the peak of the rooftop, you’ll discover a treasure chest. The key to the Protocol Document Chest can be found on top of the compound, nestled within a nearby crate.
Once you obtain the key, skip lowering the ladder. Instead, slip down the roof moving eastwards swiftly to exit the area as soon as possible, minimizing your time on their property. You’ll sustain a small amount of injury upon landing, but if you dash towards the river, you likely won’t provoke any patrolling soldiers (provided you didn’t kill the guard overhead).
An alternative method to obtain the Protocol Documents Chest Key is by executing Captain Sims. Approach him stealthily from behind for a takedown, then eliminate the Protocol troops stationed in the Village Hall. This action will help you save time but prevent you from achieving the Captain Sims ending.
What’s Inside The Protocol Documents Chest?
