As a passionate gamer myself, I’m thrilled to share that Nintendo is set to host another Indie World Showcase on August 7! This event promises to dish out updates and announcements about upcoming games for both the original Switch and the rumored Switch 2. With the Switch 2 having just made its grand entrance in June, there’s a palpable excitement among us gamers for more titles to drop for this innovative hybrid console. And for those of us who adore indie games, we can soon expect a clearer glimpse into what the future may hold for our favorite indie titles.
At the Switch 2’s debut, many games from other developers were already available. However, loyal fans of traditional Nintendo titles felt disappointed as there were no first-party releases on day one. If you were lucky enough to get your hands on the new console, you have at least four exclusive Switch 2 games to anticipate in 2025. The much-awaited Drag x Drive and an updated version of Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World will be released this month. As for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, its release date hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s planned for Winter 2025. Lastly, Kirby Air Riders has only been confirmed to come out this year. In the interim, Nintendo is preparing to reveal more about the distinctive experiences that will be coming to its new platform.
Nintendo Indie World Showcase Date and Time
- August 7, 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET
On August 7th at 6 AM Pacific Time / 9 AM Eastern Time, Nintendo has officially announced that an Indie World Showcase stream will take place. This event is expected to last approximately 15 minutes and offer additional details about upcoming indie games for both the Nintendo Switch and the newly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Although the specifics of what will be presented remain uncertain, enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating a deeper exploration of the Hollow Live sequel, as a demo for Silksong has been confirmed for this month’s Gamescom event. First unveiled in 2019, the Metroidvania title has long been a highly sought-after game among players, and there’s a strong possibility that a release date could be announced during the Indie World Showcase, making it an enticing prospect for viewers to tune in.
In the July 31 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, we received a wealth of details about forthcoming third-party games destined for the Switch and the rumored Switch 2. The audience was treated to initial glimpses of titles like Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, Once Upon a Katamari, and Octopath Traveler 0. Among these, the HD-2D title Octopath Traveler 0 was the highlight for RPG enthusiasts, as it’s set to launch on December 4 for both consoles.

As a Nintendo Switch 2 owner, I’ve recently come across an opportunity to voice my thoughts in a survey about various aspects of this new gaming system, particularly the debatable Game-Key Cards. This topic has been quite contentious within our gaming community, with many of us expressing worry that these cards might compromise game preservation down the line.
