Despite its strong points, it’s clear that Hogwarts Legacy has potential for further refinement. While catering to casual gamers is acceptable, this approach unfortunately leads to a simplistic, uninteresting gameplay experience. The combat system, in particular, seems to have been overly streamlined, often reducing to a variation of the Batman: Arkham combat system with basic rock-paper-scissors vulnerability mechanics added. There’s not much strategic depth beyond matching the right spell type with an enemy’s shield and executing the straightforward parry timing. Abilities like Avadakadavra, which can be overpowered, exacerbate these issues. In the development of the next game’s combat system, Avalanche has opportunities to expand upon these elements, creating a richer, more rewarding gaming experience overall.
