A new Avatar: The Last Airbender video game was announced at San Diego Comic Con, and the creators are eager to share details about what players can expect.
The creators of this new fighting game, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, chose a very direct title, likely to make sure players understand it’s a 2D, side-view, player-versus-player action game.
The game lets you play as popular characters from the Avatar universe and battle against other players. The reveal trailer showcases the playable characters, primarily from the original series, with Korra from *The Legend of Korra* also included.
You can now find the game on Steam with more details, and we encourage you to add it to your wishlist! While we don’t have a specific release date yet, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is currently scheduled to launch in the summer of 2026.
Exploring Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game
The game is designed to be enjoyable for both new players and longtime fans of the genre. It captures the spirit of classic fighting games while also introducing innovative movement, a unique visual style, and expressive combat. To stay true to the source material, the game features beautifully hand-drawn 2D animation.
The game will launch with 12 characters to play, and more will be added later through a season pass – referred to as “Season Model” on the game’s page.
Okay, so the big question is: will this game actually be good? The team making it, Gameplay Group International, isn’t super famous yet, but they *did* help with “Them’s Fightin’ Herds,” which a lot of people enjoyed. This new fighting game feels like something they could definitely pull off, and honestly, the trailer shows they’ve got some serious animation chops. It looks promising!
The game is confirmed to be launching on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 4 & 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. While the release is still about a year away, keep an eye on the Steam page for updates and more details in the coming months.
