Avengers: Doomsday – The Ultimate Team Revealed!

Summary

  • Avengers: Doomsday will culminate Phases Four and Five, introduce new characters, and mark the beginning of Phase Six.
  • The ensemble cast is set to feature classic superheroes like Professor X and Thor, as well as newer heroes like Shang-Chi and Yelena Belova.
  • Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., is set to be a powerful villain in Avengers: Doomsday, potentially surpassing Thanos.

Since 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”, there has been no Avengers movie. However, that’s about to change with the release of “Avengers: Doomsday” in 2026. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, this film will wrap up Phases Four and Five and kick off Phase Six. This means a host of new characters will be joining the cast for the upcoming ensemble.

Marvel Studios has revealed an extensive lineup of actors reprising their characters for the film Avengers: Doomsday. A few of these characters have been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its inception, while others will be fresh faces joining from more recent phases. Furthermore, there are unexpected returns by actors who have been associated with Marvel even before the establishment of the MCU.

27. Thor

The Last Active Member Of The Original Roster

  • Played By: Chris Hemsworth
  • First Appearance: Thor

The core Avengers team members have either perished or stepped down, yet Thor continues to be the formidable immortal character he’s always been. Chris Hemsworth has openly expressed his affection and gratitude for the part, as it served as his gateway to stardom. He has declared that he is ever ready to reprise the role whenever Marvel Studios requests his services again.

Previously, audiences last encountered Thor in his fourth standalone film titled “Thor: Love and Thunder.” Although some viewers considered this movie a step back for the character, they’re eagerly anticipating his return. In fact, the Russo Brothers had previously crafted some of Thor’s most compelling scenes in both “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” where the character really embodied the essence of the God of Thunder.

26. The Invisible Woman

The Fantastic Four Would Fall Apart Without Her

  • Played By: Vanessa Kirby
  • First Appearance: The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Vanessa Kirby will make her appearance as Susan Storm, also known as The Invisible Woman, in the upcoming film titled The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This story takes place on a unique, retro-futuristic planet where The Fantastic Four are the only superheroes. It appears that this narrative style was chosen to prevent any inconsistencies regarding why these four heroes were not part of significant events such as Ultron or Thanos.

In “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” Susan Storm assumes a pivotal role, acting as the nurturing force that binds the team members closely, much like a family. Audiences may wonder about the circumstances leading the Fantastic Four to depart from their own universe and align with the Avengers in the Sacred Timeline, all in an effort to confront Doctor Doom.

25. Captain America

The Avengers Deserve A Leader Like Sam Wilson

  • Played By: Anthony Mackie
  • First Appearance: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Following numerous years as a valiant comrade, Sam Wilson eventually assumed the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers’ retirement in Avengers: Endgame. Despite lacking superpowers, he demonstrated his worthiness of the shield in both The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Brave New World, bravely confronting formidable adversaries.

It’s plausible that Captain America might serve as the leader in the upcoming Avengers ensemble, although this has not been officially confirmed yet. Previously, Sam Wilson led his own team of heroes in a film, but with his growing popularity, President Ross entrusted him with the task of reassembling and revitalizing the Avengers team.

24. The Winter Soldier

Bucky’s Redemption Story Deserves To Be Studied

  • Played By: Sebastian Stan
  • First Appearance: Captain America: The First Avenger

The character known as the Winter Soldier has undergone significant changes since his debut in Captain America: The First Avenger, where he was portrayed as Steve Rogers’ closest ally. Later on, he was transformed into a brainwashed antagonist serving Hydra, but due to Steve Rogers’ unwavering loyalty towards him, he managed to recover his consciousness and joined the ranks of the Avengers in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the upcoming roles of Sebastian Stan in “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts.” In these films, our beloved Bucky Barnes steps into dual roles, becoming both a superhero and a congressman. Over the years, Stan has captivated us with his electrifying action scenes and his remarkable chemistry with fellow cast members, particularly Anthony Mackie. His character’s journey has been a compelling highlight throughout Marvel’s rich history, suggesting that he will undoubtedly emerge as another influential leader within the Avengers ranks.

23. Black Panther

Shuri Has The Technology And The Mind To Rival Tony Stark

  • Played By: Letitia Wright
  • First Appearance: Black Panther

In the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, Shuri, portrayed by Letitia Wright, stepped into the role that was once held by Chadwick Boseman’s character, the Black Panther, following his unfortunate demise. Thankfully, this film provided an opportunity to display Shuri’s potential as both a superhero and Wakanda’s ruler, as she skillfully managed to diffuse the conflict between her nation and Talokan, avoiding war.

It’s quite probable that Wakanda will continue to play a significant role in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” movie, given its past contributions against Thanos’ invasion. With Tony Stark no longer around, the Avengers might find it necessary to have someone who can offer advanced technology support. Shuri, known for her exceptional intelligence among Earth’s inhabitants, appears well-suited to fill this role.

22. Ant-Man

The Little Hero That Nobody Expected To Get A Franchise

  • Played By: Paul Rudd
  • First Appearance: Ant-Man

It came as a surprise that a character such as Ant-Man would play a crucial role in the Avengers, but his unique ability to expand and contract made him an indispensable force whenever he joined the team. Furthermore, it was Scott Lang and the Pym Particles that enabled the Avengers to defeat Thanos and restore the universe’s population from the Snap.

In the standalone “Ant-Man” films, Paul Rudd has brought a captivating charm to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Unlike many other heroes, he plays an ex-convict named Scott who is determined to reform himself for the sake of his daughter, Cassie. Despite not being the strongest superhero, Scott never falters when confronted by a villain. Moreover, Paul Rudd skillfully blends humor and gravity in his portrayal of this character.

21. U.S. Agent

From Failed Captain America To New Avenger

  • Played By: Wyatt Russell
  • First Appearance: The Falcon And The Winter Soldier

One of the morally ambiguous figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is John Walker, initially taking over as the government’s version of Captain America, eventually earning the title of U.S. Agent. His personal insecurities and the heavy burden of being like Captain America led him to slide towards villainous behavior, particularly after self-administering the super soldier serum.

Wyatt Russell effectively portrays the character’s intricacy, depicting a man who is far from perfect, yet not inherently wicked. He yearns for righteousness, but circumstances lead him astray, causing him to react inappropriately. Nonetheless, U.S. Agent presents an opportunity for redemption, not just as part of the Thunderbolts team, but potentially as an Avenger as well.

20. Namor

Talokan Could Be The Secret Wild Card Against Doctor Doom

  • Played By: Tenoch Huerta Mejía
  • First Appearance: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Namor is neither evil nor good; rather, he stands as a highly impartial figure, with his deepest allegiance lying with the underwater realm of Talokan. He often seems indifferent towards those who dwell on land. His limited perspective led him to consider eliminating all surface-dwellers, a plan that would have succeeded if not for Shuri’s persuasion, which convinced him to retreat.

In essence, it’s clear that Wakanda managed to hold its ground, but if a hypothetical war had occurred, Talokan would have emerged victorious, hence solidifying their status as the Earth’s most formidable nation. Given that Doctor Doom poses a threat, the Avengers might find it necessary to seek an alliance with Namor, who is set to reprise his role as the imposing ruler of Talokan, according to Tenoch Huerta Mejía’s confirmation.

19. The Thing

Ben Grimm Will Always Have Everybody’s Back

  • Played By: Ebon Moss-Bachrach
  • First Appearance: The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Known for his rugged physique and kind spirit, The Thing is another addition to the Fantastic Four. The character of Ben Grimm will be played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who has made a mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by assuming multiple roles. In the first season of The Punisher, he starred as Micro, yet more recently, he has gained recognition for his role on FX’s The Bear.

The character known as The Thing from The Fantastic Four stands out as the saddest figure because of his physical metamorphosis. He boasts super strength and is almost invulnerable, yet he looks like a stone creature, frequently causing him distress in accepting himself. Despite this, Ben Grimm, or The Thing, remains steadfast and reliable, qualities that are sure to impact his role significantly in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

18. Shang-Chi

The Ten Rings Will Provide Another Source Of Magic

  • Played By: Simu Liu
  • First Appearance: Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings

In Simu Liu’s portrayal of Shang-Chi, viewers were initiated into the concept of the Multiverse. This character combines magical abilities with martial arts prowess to develop an impressive new superhero. Following in his father’s footsteps, he gained additional power through the acquisition of the legendary Ten Ring. This artifact bestowed upon him a blend of dimensional magic and advanced alien technology, much like Doctor Doom possesses.

In my perspective as a movie enthusiast, the tantalizing postscript of “Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings” hinted at a significant role for his enigmatic new weapons in future endeavors. Not only that, but the final scene saw Shang-Chi and his companion Karen being inducted into the Avengers, following their invitation from Wong, Bruce Banner, and Captain Marvel. This underdog film turned out to be a hidden treasure, igniting speculation among viewers about the potential prowess of Shang-Chi within the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

17. Black Widow

Yelena Quickly Won The Hearts Of Audiences

  • Played By: Florence Pugh
  • First Appearance: Black Widow

In the film “Black Widow,” Florence Pugh quickly won over fans by portraying Natasha Romanoff’s younger sister, Yelena Belova, with a blend of dry wit, warmth, and efficiency as a Black Widow. She perfectly filled the shoes left by Natasha for the upcoming Marvel era while also giving the role her own distinctive flair.

Following her initial appearance, Yelena has consistently captivated audiences during her run in the “Hawkeye” series and is eagerly awaited in the upcoming “Thunderbolts” film, a Marvel production showcasing a roster of darker superheroes. Now, it appears that Yelena will step into Natasha’s shoes by joining the Avengers as her successor, much like before.

16. Beast

The X-Men Are Finally Joining The MCU

  • Played By: Kelsey Grammer
  • First Appearance: X-Men: The Last Stand

With Marvel Studios now controlling the rights to the X-Men, it seems that the future is shining brighter for fans who love mutants! Towards the end of “The Marvels”, Hank McCoy, known as Beast, unexpectedly showed up. This was when Monica Rambeau found herself in a world where the X-Men are present. Remarkably, the character appeared just like his comic book version, and was portrayed by the talented Kelsey Grammer.

Initially, Kelsey Grammer portrayed The Beast in “X-Men: The Last Stand,” and subsequently made a brief appearance in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Fans were drawn to his portrayal of the character, and now, Grammer will have more opportunities to work alongside Marvel superheroes in “Avengers: Doomsday.” As Beast is a genius comparable to Reed Richards or Tony Stark, it’s expected that he will play a significant role when the X-Men encounter the Avengers.

15. Sentry

When A Hero And Villain Are The Same Person

  • Played By: Lewis Pullman
  • First Appearance: Thunderbolts*

Lewis Pullman takes on the role of Bob Reynolds, a character who serves both as a hero and an antagonist in the upcoming film “Thunderbolts“. In the original comics, he transforms from a drug addict into a superhero after receiving a super-soldier serum. Known as Sentry, this character possesses the power equivalent to a thousand exploding suns, has the ability to fly, and demonstrates strength comparable to Captain Marvel.

Sadly, Sentry often battles against himself due to his dual nature – one being himself, the other being The Void. This dark and malevolent character emerges from Bob’s schizophrenia. In the comic series Thunderbolts*, both personas take significant roles. However, which persona will appear in Avengers: Doomsday remains a mystery.

14. Falcon

Captain America Always Has A Falcon

  • Played By: Danny Ramirez
  • First Appearance: The Falcon And The Winter Soldier

Initially, Joaquin Torres made his debut as Sam Wilson’s friend and collaborator in “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.” Later, when Sam assumed the role of Captain America, he passed on his old wings to Torres. Consequently, actor Danny Ramirez was set to reappear in “Captain America: Brave New World” as the new Falcon, continuing to work alongside Captain America much like Sam did under that title.

I’ve been quite impulsive in my actions, determined to showcase both my combat prowess and tech skills to none other than Sam Wilson, aka Falcon. This has led to an intriguing shift in dynamics between him and Captain America. Interestingly, it’s Sam who assumes the role of mentor, which I suspect will be put to the test in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

13. The Human Torch

The Power Of The Sun In The Palm Of His Hands

  • Played By: Joseph Quinn
  • First Appearance: The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Joseph Quinn is poised to become another familiar face within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, taking on the role of Johnny Storm, also known as The Human Torch, in the upcoming film The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This implies that The Fantastic Four will play a significant role in the battle against Doctor Doom, given that Doom is their most formidable adversary in the comic books.

Johnny Storm, often referred to as The Human Torch, is actually Susan’s younger sibling – yes, that’s right, the Invisible Woman. His abilities live up to his name, as he possesses the power to create and control flames that are powerful enough to resemble cosmic events like supernovas. It’s fortunate for us all that Johnny chose the path of a hero instead of causing destruction on a planetary scale with his fiery capabilities.

12. Red Guardian

He Always Wanted To Be A Real Superhero

  • Played By: David Harbour
  • First Appearance: Black Widow

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I must express that David Harbour has truly cemented his status as a go-to star for comic book adaptations. In 2019, he breathed life into Hellboy, and more recently, he lent his talents to James Gunn’s DC Universe, transforming into Frankenstein’s monster. But it was his portrayal of Red Guardian in the Black Widow movie that truly stole the show.

Harbour’s character is a brute with a heart as vast as the universe itself, delivering plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, yet demonstrating unwavering effectiveness when duty called. In essence, he embodies a superhero who knows how to balance humor and heroism.

Red Guardian, who was once shunned as an unacknowledged hero, makes him an excellent fit for the Thunderbolts movie. Yet, joining Avengers: Doomsday offers a satisfying resolution for the character, as he yearned to emulate Captain America’s superhero status and now has the chance to do so by defending the Multiverse.

11. M’Baku

Winston Duke Brought New Life To The Character

  • Played By: Winston Duke
  • First Appearance: Black Panther

Occasionally, the Marvel Cinematic Universe enhances a character beyond their comic book version, and this is evident with M’Baku from the Jabari Tribe. In comparison to his comic book counterpart, he is typically flat and stereotypical; however, Winston Duke breathes life into him, providing additional layers and character growth in both “Black Panther” films and “Avengers: Infinity War.

M’Baku displayed equally heroic qualities as Black Panther. Initially portrayed as an adversary, his actions demonstrated greater integrity than the Border Tribe, as he joined forces to overthrow Killmonger when he seized the Wakandan throne. Moreover, M’Baku provided a delightful dose of humor that endeared him to fans.

10. Ghost

Proof That Anybody Can Return To The MCU

  • Played By: Hannah John-Kamen
  • First Appearance: Ant-Man And The Wasp

In my opinion, Ghost – portrayed by the talented Hannah John-Kamen – serves as a shining example of character development in sequels. At first, I, along with many other fans, found her portrayal as a villain in “Ant-Man and The Wasp” less than impressive. Yet, it’s exciting to see that Ghost is now evolving into a member of the Thunderbolts*, and has been confirmed to join the ranks of the Avengers in “Avengers: Doomsday”. I can’t wait to witness her transformation on screen!

It’s intriguing to consider a character capable of passing through any material, like Ghost. This unique ability could result in exciting action scenes when guided by the Russo Brothers. As an added treat for fans, they might witness her reconciliation with Ant-Man, resolving their past disagreements by demonstrating her growth and transformation.

9. Loki

The God Of Stories Might Assemble The Avengers

  • Played By: Tom Hiddleston
  • First Appearance: Loki

Many viewers felt disheartened when Loki perished in Avengers: Infinity War, but fans who follow the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+ know that he isn’t the sole incarnation of Loki. Due to the idea of the Multiverse, a different version of Loki even gained his own series, where we watched him transform from a villain into a hero with an honorable mission.

In the finale of Loki Season 2, Loki is depicted sitting on a throne and planning to cultivate a Multiverse Tree aimed at preventing the annihilation of all timelines. This scenario could pave the way for Doctor Doom’s ascension as the God Emperor Doom, but it also opens up the possibility that Loki may gather heroes from various realities to form a new team of Avengers.

8. Professor X

Charles Has Been There Since The Beginning Of Marvel Movies

  • Played By: Patrick Stewart
  • First Appearance: X-Men

Beginning in 2000, Patrick Stewart masterfully portrayed the wise and telepathic character of Charles Xavier, or Professor X, with poise and finesse. He portrayed this role for seventeen years across various X-Men films until his departure, coinciding with Hugh Jackman in Logan, where both characters met a tragic end. Yet, things took an unexpected turn when Marvel Studios obtained the rights to the X-Men.

Viewers were taken aback when it was unveiled that Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X, made a comeback as an alternate version in “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness.” With the X-Men hinted at in various other films, the news that Sir Patrick Stewart will reprise his role again in “Avengers: Doomsday” has fans excitedly anticipating his return.
