Award-Winning Horror Game Added to Game Pass

Xbox Game Pass subscribers, regardless of their tier, now have the opportunity to explore Black Salt Games’ acclaimed horror RPG, titled “Dredge.” This game has garnered a “Mostly Positive” review rating on Steam and boasts an 82 average score on OpenCritic. “Dredge” is one of several highly-rated titles that have recently been added to the Xbox Game Pass library.

Over the past three months, Xbox Game Pass subscribers have been treated to a wealth of engaging new games. The variety and frequency of these additions have left members grappling with tough choices about which title to explore first. This dilemma has been especially pronounced in light of two highly anticipated releases: the surprise launch of “The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered” and the imminent arrival of the critically acclaimed “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33”, both arriving within a short span.

For Xbox Game Pass members at the Standard tier, there’s good news! All subscribers, regardless of their membership level, now have the opportunity to play the recently added game “Dredge“. Released in March 2023, this unique RPG, with its fishing-themed setting and Lovecraftian horror elements, quickly became a favorite among gamers. It was soon nominated for multiple awards, such as Best Design, Best Indie, and Best Game Writing.

Moreover, as of April 2024, the creators of “Dredge“, Black Salt Games, are collaborating with production company Story Kitchen on a live-action film adaptation. The co-founder of Story Kitchen was also the producer of the 2020 “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie.

In a distinctive, attention-grabbing design and with an engaging gameplay mechanic, Dredge offers a solo gaming journey where the main character is simply a hardworking fisherman trying to earn a living. He sets sail in search of fish and salvageable items, sells his catch, and enhances his boat’s capabilities while interacting with the local populace and hearing their tales. However, tranquility on the water is short-lived, as the fisherman encounters sea monsters, ghost ships, and other unusual occurrences.

2024 was a great year for me as a gamer, with the addition of Dredge to the PS Plus Extra catalog and its distribution through both Epic Games Store and Amazon Prime Gaming. While having access to the base game for free is exciting, I must admit that I’ve been eyeing the three DLCs – Blackstone Key, The Pale Reach, and The Iron Rig – as they bring new biomes, stories, gear, fish, and other goodies to the game. These expansions are so rich with content that I believe they’re well worth a separate purchase, even if you already have the base game through Xbox Game Pass when Black Salt’s title comes out.

For May, Xbox Game Pass has numerous new titles lined up. On the 8th, you’ll find “Revenge of the Savage Planet,” followed by “DOOM: The Dark Ages” on the 16th. Additionally, Microsoft has confirmed another day-one title for Xbox Game Pass in May – an indie adventure game called “Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo” where players journey through a Latin American portrayal of the afterlife.
