Highlights
- Starfield’s stealth gameplay has been significantly improved since its release.
- These refinements have recently been illustrated in some fan-made gameplay footage showing how sneaking is now much easier, whereas sneak attacks trigger more consistently.
As a long-time Starfield gamer, I’m thrilled to see Bethesda making significant strides in improving the game’s stealth mechanics. The early version of the game left many of us frustrated with the extreme difficulty in sneaking around undetected. Enemies seemed to have almost superhuman senses, often spotting me even through walls or other cover.
As a passionate Starfield gamer, I’ve been thrilled to witness Bethesda’s recent enhancements to the game’s RPG stealth mechanics. I’ve seen some fresh footage showcasing these improvements, and it’s truly impressive. The clip provides an illuminating glimpse into how Starfield’s stealth system has evolved since its launch.
One common criticism levied by fans of Starfield upon its release was the significant challenge posed by sneaking around enemies. The primary concerns centered on the adversaries’ uncanny ability to detect players from great distances, at times seemingly through solid objects such as walls or other concealment. Bethesda has made several efforts to remedy these issues.
Fan Illustrates How Starfield Stealth Is Much More Forgiving Nowadays
Although it remains unclear if the company has finished perfecting Starfield’s sneaking mechanics, their progress in this area is evident based on feedback from Reddit user TurnipTate. This user showcased a clip highlighting enhancements to the stealth mechanics in Starfield. The footage opens with the character sprinting through a corridor and then crouching at an intersection, causing a guard nearby to become wary but not aggressively react. Such behavior would seldom occur in earlier iterations of the game where enemies possessed extraordinary sensory abilities.
As an avid fan of Starfield, I was thrilled to notice in TurnipTate’s clip that the game’s sneak attacks have become more reliable and consistent. Now, these attacks are triggered predictably as long as the player manages to remain hidden from enemies. However, there’s still one major issue with the current stealth system that needs addressing. Specifically, if a companion engages in combat, I’ve encountered instances where I’m unable to execute sneak attacks even when my own presence remains undetected.
Bethesda’s Been Improving Starfield Stealth Since Late 2023
Certain stealth enhancements that have recently been introduced have been part of the game since the Starfield update, which was launched around late November 2023 (version 1.8.86). Bethesda made some adjustments to the game’s sneaking system during this release, as mentioned in their official patch notes, to make it more lenient.
Since then, there have been additional enhancements rolled out, the most recent being the Starfield update 1.10.31 in mid-March 2024. This patch resolved a bothersome issue where Minibots interfered with the in-game Stealth Meter on occasion. For those finding stealth challenges excessively difficult, various stealth mods are available as alternatives. One widely-used community creation is the Stealth Overhaul mod by Nexus Mods user IxionXVII. Launched in September 2023, this add-on has seen over 214,900 downloads.
