Remember Pablo Sanchez, Kiesha Phillips, and Kenny Kawaguchi? These were legendary players in the Backyard Sports games that many of us grew up with. They became baseball heroes in our minds, right alongside famous players like Babe Ruth and Pete Rose. Now, after more than 20 years, Backyard Baseball is returning!

Fans are incredibly excited for the upcoming release of Backyard Baseball on July 9, 2026 – it’s being compared to Michael Jordan’s return to basketball! The game is getting a complete makeover with updated graphics and plenty of new ways to play, designed for both kids and nostalgic adults. But you won’t have to wait that long to get a taste – the developers are releasing a demo on Steam to give players a sneak peek.

Backyard Baseball Launches A Demo Ahead of Full Release

Fans can now get a sneak peek at the upcoming Backyard Baseball game! A demo is available starting today, April 9, 2026, for PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch 2, letting players experience the game before its summer release. The demo recently impressed attendees at PAX East, even winning a “Best in Show” award and earning rave reviews. It features a new game mode called Backyard Derby, and players can try out characters like Kiesha Phillips, Kenny Kawaguchi, and Pablo Sanchez.

Playground Productions’ Chris Waters, Chief Product Officer, explains that Backyard Derby offers a glimpse into the future of the Backyard Baseball series. It’s been revamped to be quicker, more challenging, and highly replayable, with a focus on easy-to-enjoy cooperative play, while still maintaining the beloved character-driven appeal that fans remember.

The game’s new mode challenges players to hit as many home runs as possible against Mr. Clanky, a robotic pitcher, within a set time limit. You can try it out in the classic Steele Stadium, now with a new night setting, either by yourself or with a friend on the same couch.

Backyard Baseball Remake To Launch July 9

Get ready to relive your childhood! Backyard Baseball is returning in early July. This updated version of the classic game combines the nostalgic fun you remember with the features and quality modern gamers want. Here’s what’s new:

  • 11 remastered stadiums
  • 24 original teams
  • Six unique game modes, including some new additions.
  • 30 playable characters
  • Achievements, unlockable characters, and collectibles.
  • Tutorials and accessibility features to cater for all ages and skill levels.
  • Improved power-ups for both batters and pitchers.

Okay, so Backyard Baseball isn’t out quite yet, but I’m already hyped! You can wishlist it on Steam right now to get updates as they happen.
