The Forsaken Hollows DLC for Elden Ring Nightreign adds two new characters to play as, a new Shifting Earth area, and two new expeditions. These expeditions feature challenging new Nightlords starting on Day 3, which can be difficult for players—particularly if they aren’t familiar with the boss’s weaknesses and how to avoid their attacks.
Balancers is the first of two challenging bosses in Elden Ring Nightreign that demands a well-coordinated team and a strategy for handling all the Valkyries. This guide details the boss’s attacks, provides strategies for defeating it, and lists the rewards players can earn.
Balancers Overview in Elden Ring Nightreign
| Attack | Image | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 | ||
| Halbred Combo |
|
The Balancers charge their halberds and start a combo attack, spinning around. |
| Sacred Eruption |
|
The boss goes down on one knee and forms a holy circle around themself, followed by multiple spearheads erupting from the ground within it. |
| Phase 2 | ||
| Celestial Descent |
|
After the second phase starts, all of the Valkyries will fly up, and one after the other, each of them will fly down and pass by in a horizontal path, leaving behind a trail that erupts shortly. At the end of this attack, the pink-winged one will drop down, causing a massive AOE explosion. |
| Sacred Rupture |
|
The boss points their weapon at the ground and starts charging pink energy around them, followed by a large circular AOE explosion around them. |
| Spear Trail |
|
Balancers will summon a trail of spears to appear underneath the player. |
| Empowered Halbred Combo |
|
The Pink-Winged Valkyrie starts the halberd combo, but instead of ending it the same way, they will now leap up and shoot three projectiles at you that come at you in an arc shape. |
| Thrusting Combo |
|
The empowered boss will jump up, leap their weapon at you, then start rapidly thrusting it multiple times before doing a ground slam. |
| Halbred Skewer |
|
The boss dashes in and skewers the player with their weapon, causing them to take a lot of damage. |
Balancers Weaknesses in Elden Ring Nightreign
If you’re facing the Balancers, your best bet is to find weapons that cause Sleep. This status effect is what they’re most vulnerable to. While Frost and Bleed weapons can work, switching to Sleep is ideal if you have one. Don’t worry too much about elemental damage types – none of them are particularly effective except for Magic, which deals more damage than usual. Avoid Fire, Lightning, and especially Holy damage, as the boss is very resistant to those.
The Sleep ability is a useful tactic against the Valkyries. If you deal enough damage to any one of them, they’ll fall asleep for several seconds, letting you concentrate on other enemies with one less to worry about. This also works on enhanced Valkyries during the second phase of the fight.
You can also find Sleep Grease and Pots inside the boxes within the Sleep Ruins. If you have a Scholar in your group, be sure to give these items to them, as their special ability lets them carry more items.
How To Beat Balancers in Elden Ring Nightreign
Counters, Team Comps, & Best Strategies For (Weapon-Bequeathed Harmonia)
Okay, so when the fight begins, you’ll be up against seven Valkyries. Each one has its own health bar, but here’s the key: any damage you do to them also chips away at a main health bar at the bottom of the screen. Luckily, they don’t have a ton of attacks in this phase, and they’re pretty easy to read. Just a tip: don’t button-mash attacks when you’re right next to them! There’s this move, Sacred Eruption, where spears pop up from the ground, and if you’re out of stamina and can’t dodge, you’re going to get hit. So be mindful of your timing!
With seven Balancers, you might find yourself fighting two or three at once in Trios, which can be difficult, especially if your class lacks strong escape abilities. After defeating all the Balancers, the boss will be at 30% health, and then all the Balancers will reappear for the next phase.
Okay, so my strategy is to conserve my healing potions in the first part of this fight. I’ve heard the second phase is way tougher, and I’ll really need those flasks then. Basically, I’m trying not to burn through them all right away!
Phase 2
The second part of the battle is much more intense. When all the Valkyries take to the air, one will gain pink wings and begin descending, each creating a damaging area-of-effect trail. You’ll need to avoid all of these attacks, including a large final explosion. Then, the Balancers will come down, just like in the first phase, but this time they’ll be joined by a stronger enemy.
You can approach this fight in one of two ways: you can attack the smaller Balancers scattered around the arena while also damaging the main boss, or you can concentrate your attacks on the stronger, enhanced Balancer. While attacking the individual Balancers might seem effective, keep in mind that they will respawn until the boss’s health reaches zero.
Focusing on the powered-up Valkyrie is the better strategy. Defeating it stuns all the other Balancers for a short time, giving you a chance to heal or attack them before they recover and a new, stronger Valkyrie appears.
Rest is a powerful advantage in this battle, so focus on getting it when you can and avoid targeting enemies who are already resting.
Best Balancers Team Comps
For the Balancers, the most effective team consists of Scholar, Undertaker, and Ironeye. Scholar is essential, but the player using him needs to understand how his special ability works and prioritize collecting items to enhance it. His ultimate ability is particularly strong against Valkyries because the damage is shared among them. Ideally, you should use Scholar’s ultimate after other team members have used theirs.
Undertaker is a crucial team member due to her incredibly strong abilities. Her basic skill significantly boosts stamina and reduces damage taken. She also gains an Ultimate Art whenever an ally uses theirs or she successfully dodges a powerful enemy attack. What really sets her apart is her upgraded skill, which grants her 10 seconds of invulnerability. This allows her to withstand lengthy boss attacks and effectively revive teammates even when they’re low on health.
Ironeye is a valuable character thanks to his ability to mark enemies and the fact that you can equip a Relic to boost his skills and help him avoid powerful attacks that could harm the Nightfarer. He can also safely revive a teammate from a distance. However, don’t rule out other Nightfarers like Recluse and Wylder, as they can still significantly contribute to the team’s damage.
