Balatro Mobile Port Has Unexpected Problem

As a dedicated Balatro player since its PC release, I must say that I understand the concerns regarding the new sell mechanic in the mobile versions of this beloved game. While I’m used to the intricate controls of PC gaming, I can imagine how accidental sales might be a frustrating experience for mobile players, especially considering the importance of managing Joker cards in the game.

Critics have voiced their disapproval regarding the revised selling mechanism introduced in the latest mobile adaptations of the popular roguelike game, Balatro. The method for selling Joker cards in the Android and iOS editions of Balatro varies from the established system that players are familiar with on PCs and consoles.

The indie game Balatro, praised for its quality, was released in mobile versions on September 26, enabling players to enjoy the Poker-based deck builder while on the move. The response to these adaptations has been predominantly favorable – boasting a flawless five-star rating with nearly 7,000 reviews on the Apple app store. However, discussions online have arisen regarding modifications made to the sales system within the game.

In a recent discussion on the Balatro subreddit, user docpagliacci expressed frustration over unintentionally selling off their Jokers in the mobile versions of the game. Since many unique Joker cards in Balatro can only be obtained during matches from a special shop, effectively managing these items is essential to gameplay. In the PC and console versions, selecting Jokers grants an additional option to sell the cards with a simple click or button press. However, on mobile ports, users have to move Jokers to a separate sell area located beside the card deck. According to docpagliacci, who accidentally sold a Joker while rearranging their cards, this sell area should be relocated to the rightmost side of the screen for easier access and less accidental sales.

Complaints About New Sell Zone in Balatro Mobile

In response to docpagliacci’s opinion, many community members found agreement and one individual pointed out that it was peculiar for the mobile versions of Balatro to have a distinct sell mechanic initially. The sole developer of Balatro, LocalThunk, who is well-known for concealing game-altering Balatro exploits, has followed docpagliacci’s advice by shifting the sell box more to the right on the screen. This adjustment was made gradually, with each update from version 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 moving the area incrementally further to the right.

After being launched on Android and iOS, the game known as Balatro surpassed sales records, even outperforming mobile gaming giants such as Minecraft, the all-time bestseller, in significant markets like Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Back in August, it became known that the game Balatro had moved a staggering two million units since its release in February. Excitingly, this game is scheduled to undergo its first significant overhaul in 2025, with the promise of introducing fresh concepts and strategies to enhance the beloved deck-building experience.
