It’s really, really good, and I’ve seen all 10 of the episodes.

Michael Connelly Has Praised Maggie Q’s Performance in The Bosch: Legacy Ballard Spin-Off

In his latest interview with Entertainment Weekly, author Michael Connelly shared his role in the selection of actress Maggie Q for her character Renee Ballard, similar to how he was involved when Titus Welliver was cast as Harry Bosch back in 2014.

Maggie is terrific, exhibiting a bold and resilient demeanor that serves her particularly well in addressing the sexism within her department. She stands firm instead of backing down.

Renee Ballard’s character is modeled after former LAPD detective, Mitzi Roberts, who frequently collaborates with Connelly. Previously, Roberts served as a consultant on both ‘Bosch’ and ‘Bosch: Legacy’, but now she is an executive producer and scriptwriter for the show ‘Ballard’. Connelly revealed to Entertainment Weekly that this was the case.

Having Mitzi Roberts, the former LAPD detective who served as inspiration for the Renée Ballard character, on set is incredibly beneficial to Maggie. With her extensive experience in the field, Mitzi provides valuable insights when Maggie or the writers require guidance or answers to their questions. The two have developed a strong bond over their shared experiences.

It appears that Connelly and Roberts have resumed their publicity efforts with Amazon following some challenging months prior to Bosch: Legacy’s last season, during which there seemed to be disagreement between them. In February, it came to light that Roberts had contradicted Connely’s assertion that the ending of Bosch: Legacy was a creative choice. Instead, Roberts shared this information with fans on The Bosch Pit Facebook group.

Apart from expressing our disappointment, there isn’t much more I can add. However, I hope you’ll find the Ballard series as captivating as we do. Just as you mentioned, this series was intended to complement Bosch, not to overshadow it in any way.

Instead of Ballard, we could imagine a more potent partnership with Bosch’s team in “Legacy”, but fans will find him investigating cases from the cold division across Los Angeles instead. Meanwhile, let’s keep our fingers crossed for the possible revival of “Bosch: Legacy” down the line.
