Ballistic Moon Faces Layoffs Ahead of Until Dawn Remake Release in October

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for those affected by the layoffs at Ballistic Moon. The gaming industry is known for its highs and lows, but to have this happen just before the launch of Until Dawn Remake feels particularly cruel.

In a surprising move, the creators of Until Dawn’s remake, Ballistic Moon, have let go of some team members prior to the game’s release, which is scheduled for October 4th, 2024. The exact number of affected developers remains undisclosed.

While the developers haven’t issued an official announcement about the layoffs, multiple developers on LinkedIn have shared information about it.

Stuart Campbell, a Game Programmer at Ballistic Moon, announced, “Hey everyone, Sadly, my current position at Ballistic Moon is being eliminated, so I’m searching for fresh opportunities. If you know of any roles that might fit me well, feel free to reach out.”

Cassy Cornish, who works as a Junior Game Designer at Ballistic Moon, shared that she regrettably will be let go from her position due to industry-wide challenges. Despite the difficult situation, she expressed great enthusiasm for the upcoming release of our game, scheduled for October. The team at Ballistic Moon has been exceptional during this time.

Harry Williams, who serves as a Technical Designer, shared: “It’s been thrilling to work on Until Dawn 2024 for the past two years at Ballistic Moon. Sadly, my position as a Technical Designer is being eliminated. I’ve cherished collaborating with everyone at BM and eagerly anticipate future opportunities where our paths may cross again!”

As I’m typing this, five developers from Ballistic Moon announced on LinkedIn that they had been let go. However, the exact number of employees impacted remains uncertain at the moment.

TopMob has reached out to Ballistic Moon for comment.

Currently as I write, it’s projected that by 2024, more than 11,700 individuals will have experienced job losses due to layoffs within the gaming industry, affecting over 130 different companies.

At this point, it’s uncertain whether the upcoming layoffs will impact the development of the Until Dawn Remake or any other related projects, such as the potential film adaptation being handled by PlayStation Productions and Sony’s Screen Gems, which are thought to be in the initial stages of production.
