Bam Margera’s Return Could Signal a New Era for Tony Hawk’s Skateboarding Games!

Following a five-year break, the popular Tony Hawk series is coming back with the impending release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 remake. Unlike the previous Pro Skater 1+2 remake, this set of re-releases is not being developed by Vicarious Visions but by Iron Galaxy, a studio renowned for its work on the 2013 Killer Instinct reboot. It was thought just a few months ago that remakes for the third and fourth installments in the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series had been scrapped due to Vicarious Visions merging with Blizzard Entertainment. However, after hinting at its return in an update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, publisher Activision confirmed that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 will be available across all platforms later this year.

Just like its predecessors in the series, the upcoming game, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, will showcase an extensive lineup of playable skateboarders, many of whom are based on real-world individuals. Some familiar faces from the original Pro Skater 3 and 4, like Bucky Lasek and Rodney Mullen, will return, but fresh talents such as Yuto Horigome and Chloe Covell will make their series debut. Although Activision hasn’t unveiled the complete roster for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 yet, there are whispers that it may have an unexpected ace up its sleeve, as suggested by some recent speculations.

Bam Margera is Reportedly Going to Be Included in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4

In the recent installment of The Nine Club skating podcast, Roger Bagley hinted that Bam Margera might be one of the playable characters in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4. If this is true, it appears that his inclusion was a late decision during game development. According to Bagley, after the production of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 was completed, Tony Hawk supposedly contacted Activision and requested Margera be added to the game. Initially, Activision declined the suggestion, but after further requests from Hawk, it is said that they eventually agreed and included him in the upcoming remake. However, neither Activision nor Tony Hawk have confirmed this information officially, leaving fans curious about the potential direction for the series.

Bam Margera Once Had a Prominent Role in the THPS Series, But Activision Has Distanced Itself From Him

To clarify, Bam Margera is a renowned figure known for his past as a professional skateboarder and television personality. He was prominently featured in the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4, as well as other games like Tony Hawk’s Underground 1 and 2. However, in more recent times, Activision has chosen to keep their distance from Margera due to his ongoing struggles with substance abuse and the legal complications that followed. This decision has resulted in Margera not being included in any of the Tony Hawk games developed after Neversoft.

Neversoft served primarily as the main developer for many of the initial titles within the Tony Hawk’s series. Post the launch of 2007’s Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, they moved on to create several games under the banners of Guitar Hero and Call of Duty. Unfortunately, Activision closed down Neversoft in 2014.

Fans of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series have expressed concern about Activision’s reluctance to include Bam Margera in their games, as they fear it could restrict the direction the series might take. Many fans have hoped for a remaster or remake of the Tony Hawk’s Underground games, but given that Margera was a significant character in these titles, some are uncertain if this will ever occur due to his involvement. The Underground duology focused heavily on storytelling and characters compared to the Pro Skater series, making it challenging to replace the skateboarders in the subseries.

The Alleged Inclusion of Bam Margera in THPS 3+4 Makes a THUG 1 & 2 Remake More Plausible

If it’s true that Bam Margera could join Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4, it’s not far-fetched to think that Activision might consider remaking Tony Hawk’s Underground 1 and 2 as well. Given their willingness to collaborate with him again, they may no longer shy away from bringing games he was deeply connected to onto current systems. The Tony Hawk’s Underground series is highly acclaimed within the Tony Hawk franchise, so if Activision can update them without altering their narratives or mechanics too drastically, fans might be quite pleased with the results.
