Currently, we’re approximately seven hours away from the debut of Monster Hunter Wilds’ first title update. This significant update includes the return of the leviathan Mizutsune, replayable Zoh Shia hunts, and a fresh Grand Hub for hunters to reside in. For any dedicated hunter, a new title update is always an exhilarating moment; however, it’s also essential to exercise some level of caution.
Capcom isn’t always perfect when it comes to updating PC versions of Monster Hunter games, and sometimes player save files get accidentally deleted during updates. This happened with Monster Hunter: World and Monster Hunter: Rise at certain points in their lifespan, leaving some players with corrupted save data. Thankfully, players managed to find solutions before Capcom fixed the issues, but it’s never enjoyable when your saved progress disappears unexpectedly.
It’s uncertain if the same precautions apply to Monster Hunter Wilds, but it’s always wise to be extra careful. With Steam cloud saves in place, it wouldn’t hurt to manually save your Monster Hunter Wilds progress as well, just for added protection against potential mishaps.
Here’s how to do it:
- First, in your Steam directory in Program Files, go to Steam\userdata\[Your User ID]\2246340\remote\ and make a copy of the win64_save folder
- Then, go to Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds\ and make a copy of the config.ini file so you don’t have to reconfigure all your settings
Instead of placing all backup copies in a single folder, consider organizing the folders based on their original paths for easy navigation. This way, when you need to restore the files in your Steam directory, you can simply drag and drop the contents into their respective locations without having to remember or retrace your steps.
Instead, you can find a user-friendly Backup Tool on Nexus Mods which takes care of backing up and restoring for you when needed. Although it’s not set to run automatically, you can use it any time you wish to create a backup, making it a convenient choice if you prefer not to manually navigate your Steam files yourself.
It’s best to invest a couple of minutes preparing, so you can jump straight into Mizutsune hunts without encountering any problems. This way, you’ll be ready to strike the majestic fox snake with hammers as planned, avoiding any regrets later on.
