Beginning this week, “Zuoshou Shanglan,” or “Left-Hand Layup” as it’s known in English, a captivating Chinese animated series, will be streaming on Crunchyroll.

The narrative of “Left-Hand Layup” chronicles the journey of basketball prodigy Xu Xing Ze, whose ambition to excel is momentarily thwarted when he unintentionally enrolls at a less powerful school sharing the same name as his desired powerhouse institution.

Xu Xing Ze, an exceptionally gifted basketball player, pursues his lofty ambitions in the sport only to have them shattered when his sister mistakenly enrolls him at a low-rated school with a name resembling the top-tier, championship-winning institution he sought. Now, Ze must forge alliances with a motley crew of players, competing against some of the toughest teams and athletes in the region.

The show garnered popularity in China and received a nomination for the 2024 China International Cartoon and Animation Festival (CICAF) as the Best Animated Series. Additionally, Jintian Li, who crafted the storyline, was nominated for the Best Original Screenplay For Chinese Comics at the 2024 Golden Screenwriters’ Gala.

The television show “Left-Hand Layup” was overseen by directors Yanwen Gao, Yang Huang, and Zhongli Xie. Xiaohan Chen, the original scriptwriter, and He Li, along with Jintian Li and Yijin Pan, contributed to the screenplays. Multiple character designers were involved in this project, such as Long Lin, Jing Zhang, Lizheng Zong, Zeyi Liu, who additionally functioned as the series’ animation supervisor. Jiaxuan Tong was also part of the team. The cast for “Left-Hand Layup” consists of:
